Versa Colour Limitations & Frustrations

I don't know if others have experienced this, but I can't seem to achieve a result that doesn't have some hint of orange with the VersaSpa. I've done level 1, level 2, level 2 with prep & finishing spray, and all end up slightly orange. How can I achieve that nice olive brown tone shown on the brochures? *LOL*

(I actually got a better, beigier result with Jergens Natural Glow! Go figure ...)

I'd hoped perhaps a level 3, with prep & finishing spray, would do the trick, but I was told at the salon that they don't offer the prep/finishing spray with the level 3 (odd!). My final option is to try a level 3 without, but I fear that'll just make me a darker orange!

Wonder if it has to do with the percentage of DHA in the solution? I heard somewhere that the there's no difference between percentage in each level, but that less spray comes out of the nozzles for level 1, vs. level 3.

Does anyone know? Perhaps I'd be better off getting an airbrush tan (where DHA percentages can be tweaked)? At this point, the spray tan thing is discouraging (convenient as it may be).

Re: Versa Colour Limitations & Frustrations

Your salon might use a different solution but I have nothing but brown on me when I use my versa spa on level 2.

I also use the prep spray, we dont have the finishing spray at my salon. But I know we use an off lable solution, not the versa.

Whatever it is I love it,

Too bad you are getting an orange hue. Might as well try the level 3, if its orange it only lasts a couple days tops, just shower and exfoliate!

I havnt tried the level 3 yet... I keep wanting to... but the level 2 is pretty dark on me when layerd on top of my dar tan... so im not sure how level 3 will come out!

Re: Versa Colour Limitations & Frustrations

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy that you're achieving nice brown results with level 2.

I've checked the storage cabinet (they keep their solutions stocked in the same room as the unit) and they definitely use Versa brand.

I also do everything right - exfoliating, using an AHA scrub with low pH and gentle body wash, being sure to have nothing on my skin before getting sprayed, so nothing that should interfere with colour development.

Now I should point out, it's not a super-obvious, intense orange, just a faint hint of it in certain lights. Perhaps that's normal and I'm just hyper sensitive to looking fake?

Think I'll try a level 3 (legs only, in case something goes horribly wrong!) and we'll see what happens. The experiment continues ...

You probably are sensitive to looking orange lol I know I am. Ive thought that ive looked like an oompa loompa before when using mystic and people insisted I wasnt.

Try taking a pic of youself?

Depending on the lighting, sunless tans can look a little different, so that definitely could be part of it.

One of the things some of our clients do is what we call a "Double Dip". You tan in a HP bed before going into the VersaSpa. I hope this helps!

Yeah try and see if tanning and then doing the Versa helps ( we call it cocktail :) ) I always tan and then do a level 2 and really like the results.

Re: Versa Colour Limitations & Frustrations

It helps to have a really good base tan before using the spray tan whether its the Versa or Mystic. I dont think a level 3 will help you at all if your not getting good results with a level 1 or 2. Also the Versa will spray the same amount of spray its the amount of DHA in the level 1,2 and 3 that makes it different :)

Re: Versa Colour Limitations & Frustrations

I thought that the versa spa had the same amount of DHA but it just sprayed longer or more layers on each level. We have a mystic tan at our salon and it's got the 3 different levels. The difference is that it sprays for a longer amount of time up and down the higher up you choose.

Doing a higher level would just make you look more orange to be honest. If you are getting an orange tint then perhaps you could try a different salon's solution. Or you just have that type of skin that turns orange :(

When you do this, do you use tanning lotion while tanning or no? I would think it would interfere with the prep and solution of the spray tan

Thanks!

Great question! I've always wanted to know the answer to this, also.
