Tanning once a day policy??

So I went to tan today, and the girl at the salon told me that I couldn't tan because I tanned at 12:40 yesterday. It was 12:08. She said it was a Texas law because your skin can't recover from UV light in under 24 hours. I'm aware of the policy, but I was still annoyed that I had to wait to tan over 32 stinkin' minutes. Not like my skin is really gonna do anything in half an hour.

It seemed really silly since I use 20 minute beds but only tan for 10 minutes, meaning I could have tanned for 20 minutes yesterday (and burnt the crap out of myself) but couldn't tan for 10 minutes at 12:40 yesterday and for 10 minutes at 12:08 today. Once I'm using the beds for longer I don't go every day anyway, so it won't be a problem after this week, but still...

I understand the health issues involved, but I hate that I was inconvenienced because some idiots would go fry themselves 8 times a day if given the option. What do y'all think?

Well, it does sound annoying, but I guess a law has to be definite or otherwise it wouldn't mean anything. I guess just find a way to work around it. It's too bad you couldn't go back bit later.

she could have gone back later, it was just more of a inconveinence (sp) when your already there, ya know.
of course they have to follow the law.. otherwise it wouldnt be a law as bonnie says.

A law is a law. I am glad the salon employee was following rules. I wouldn't want to be held liable if something were to happen. And in many salons, the computer program won't allow you go around that.

I don't know when that law went into effect. But their computer system must have just changed. I know in the past there has never been a problem when I've gone an hour or two earlier than I did the previous day. That's why I was surprised when today she said that the computer wouldn't let her turn the bed on.

She seemed a little annoyed about it too. She said it slows them down when there are a bunch of people there, and someone is 2 minutes early and they have to make them wait and then log them in again.

The salon probably has their tanning program set to lock out people's account for a 24 hour period. And I agree, the employee probably couldn't have bypassed it even if she had wanted to.

We have that law in OR too, but our software is only set to lock someone out for the calendar day.

Re: Tanning once a day policy??

The citys health inspector audits tanning salons regularly in texas. They get fined 1500 dollars per person who breaks the 24 hour rule per time that they did it.

Although, the salon could make up a fake name to put it under, we had a few "maintenence names" we used at our salon to do work on the beds and to let our customers tan if they had been in within 24 hours. The names were very obvious like Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima. Lol
