What exactly is a DHA free bronzer? I am discovering that the bronzers can leave you really streaky if you are not careful!

one thing i have always wondered about. they say youre supposed to wash your hands after you put bronzing lotion on...and most of the people i know (as well as myself) put lotion on right before they get in the unit. so when do you have time to wash your hands? i usually just wipe mine quick on the towel .. but sometimes with real dark bronzers it doesnt do the job :\

This is really good info, but just to add something to it, not all Bronzers have DHA
Some are Cosmetic, like Body Makeup, which can wash off when you shower, and some are DHA, which stay on the skin for several days

Question: I am a new tanner and am pale skin, freckled, and slightly red headed. I need a good lotion for tanning in the tanning bed. I have been tanning for 4 weeks and it seems my tan washes off when I take a shower. I still have a slight pink a few hours after my shower. Should I start with a lotion that does not contain bronzers? Aslo, when I do use a bronzer, what are some example lotions with DHA???? I am guessing my tan lotion is cosmetic because of how it seems to wash off. I have been using Campus Cutie AZU with 18 bronzers in it. It gives WONDERFUL fast results, but like I said it fades VERY fast when I get in the shower. I go to the tanning bed every day or every other day... Somebody help please!! THANKS !

Hi Maegan, You should try an accellerator lotion without bronzer. Then you will see your tan coming on. Use a tanning sticker to track it. If you are using the tanning beds every other day then you should see a colour quite soon, especially as your skin will be used to the beds now.

I would suggest to only use the bronzer if you are looking for an instant result. Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Carry a little resealable pack of facewipes in your bag and use them to wipe your hands!

You can also squirt a little of the cleaner for the bed into your hands and wipe off with the towel real quick before you get into the bed - this is what I do and I use bronzers - no orangie palms =)

Accelerators/maximizers/intensifiers are all basically the same thing. Lotions with no bronzers or tingle that can be used by anyone.

There are actually three kinds of bronzers....1.) DHA which stains the dead skin cells your body has not exfoliated yet. 2.) the cosmetic or " color " bronzers that wash away and are just the color of the lotion on you ( i.e. sb amaretto ) and 3.) the DHA free bronzers that are supposedly UV activated to help your body to NATURALLY promote a bronze, even and less-reddened appearance. Not all stain the skin...some are natural. such as designer skin's "BOMB SHELL" or " ROAR" they are DHA free bronzers...but the lotions are not terribly dark so as to color the skin from just that and wash off.....Just an FYI....

One question though, can anyone pin down some common ingredients that are purely cosmetic bronzers? (aka the goldeny brown color that washes off in hours)
