Putting Self Tanner Over My Real Tan

OK. I have a question. SO I have been tanning alot, I have pretty good color, but I decided to put self tanner on tonight OVER my real tan, ( mostly my face and neck ) and i wanted to see how it would look. DO any of you do this? Will this hurt or affect my real tan in any way? Thank you!

It wont hurt your real tan. I have done this a few times. It really helps to enhance your real tan underneath and most self tanners look more natural then they would if they were applied to pale skin.

I do it, it looks great, I use a Loreal airbrush one that I spray on. I recommend not using a dark, heavy lotion self tanner because putting it on over your already tanning lotioned skin will clog up your pores and stink like DHA. If you like using a thick sunless lotion, put it on after your shower. Or just do what I do and spray!

I ALWAYS used to do this!! Whenever I would, the next day people would say omggg you're so tan!!! (i loved it! haha) and since it's over a natural tan, it looks that much more brown!

I no longer do it. I have no idea what happened but one time, when I used to spray tan and also use tanning bed, a chunk of the spray tan came off and took off my tan with it. I went back to the salon a couple days later and showed the girl and she was shocked. I had a huge circle of white on my chest. They have no idea what happened or how it could even happen but to this day, and this was last summer, I still can't tan fully where the spray tan came off and took off my real tan. I have never heard of this happening before but it happened to me and since then, I do not use spray tan or self tanner, I'm too scared to.

what are your favorite self-tanners?? the coppertone one is hella dark! makes me orange after 1 application, lol. i put it on at night, then washed my hands, and in the morning i could see the tan line on my wrists, lol.......my hands looked pale and my arms looked orange lol.......

but if u need a fast color without tanning, then its pretty good!

I think the #1 best self tanner is L'oreal Sublime (gel or lotion) it makes me look so brown and never orange! Use it on my face a few times a week (my face never gets as dark as my body from tanning)

My all time best fake tanner is sunlabs dark sunsations. Ive always gotten compliments on my tan when I use it but I also wouldn't use it more than once a week. You don't need to, anyway. It gives great color. It has a color guide so you can see it when applying so there's no streaking. The color guide does wash off and then you're left with an awesome tan!

Sorry to hear about your experience! However, this could not have been caused by self tanner application. All that DHA does is stain the top layer of skin. I'm thinking that perhaps your natural tan wasn't as dark as you had believed (perhaps longterm use of DHA-containing bronzers led you to believe your natural tan was darker than it actually was?). And perhaps the use of self-tanner prevented you from tanning properly, since large amounts of DHA do inhibit UV to some extent.

Did you exfoliate following the self-tan application? If so, that may have caused some of your natural tan to fade as well. Otherwise, you may have developed a skin condition (vitiligo, tinea versicolor) that coincided with your ST use. But there is truly no way that ST could have this effect.

I apply self tanner over my real tan all the time!! It really helps my color pop...I get alot of compliments when I do this!

i read (dont remember where,sorry) that using self tanner first and then tanning a bit later can help you tan better.
