Tan developing?

Am i right in thinking that you continue to get darker after being on the sunbed?

I always seem darker a few hours later

Correct! A tan takes up to 24 hours to fully develop. Welcome to the site, by the way!

Oh yeah Fo Sho! right when you get out of the bed you see instant color, but that isn't reflective of what your TRUE color from the session will develop into after 12-24 hours. Just remember to moisturize moisturize moisturize!!

Re: Tan developing?

Which is probably why you should not tan every day, but leave 48/72 hrs between sessions.

IPD (immediate pigment) is immediate, DPD (delayed pigment) can take upto 72 hrs. This amount of time will vary based on several factors; a few include type of tanning unit used, skin type and one's own tanning ability.

Re: Tan developing?

Hmmm, I don't know maybe my skin is weird. The last time I tanned was Monday and I was so dark later that night. And then I haven't tanned since then and I feel like I'm lighter today than I was yesterday. Like I already lost most of my tan. Could this be?

Yea I think it depends on your skin/ability to keep a tan! I'm like that too.. sometimes I'll get lazy and stop going as often, and I lose a ton of color.. but I'm naturally VERY fair so it's harder for my skin to keep pigment. Friends of mine on the other hand can skip full weeks at a time and still be super dark. Just go every few days for maitenance and you'll be fine

It depends on your skin. But it also depends on the type of bed you use as well. A high-power bed tans quickly, but because it's not a base bed you can lose the color quickly as well. Just make sure you moisturize, moisturize, moisturize and this will help you maintain your tan!

Its called immediate pigment darkening or something like that. Basically, your skin looks really dark after you tan, but it is not reflective of your true colour(I think it has to do with the increased blood flow to the skin). Your true colour develops 24-48 hours after you tan.

Re: Tan developing?

Okay, so I didn't go tan for over a week and definitely lost a lot of color. I have type 3C skin according to the test on here. I don't know how to tell if I'm using a base bed or not. The place I go has beds from level 1 to level 3. And then they have the high pressure bed. I started off using the level 1 and now about 3 weeks later have started using the level 2 for 10 minutes every other day except for the last week. So, my real question is I use a tanning lotion with a bronzer. After I tan I always wait at least 4 hours until I shower. I get in the shower and as I'm drying off I literally am wiping the bronzer off my skin. Or so, I think. I wipe my skin and it suddenly is lighter. Is this supposed to happen? It's so frustrating because after I tan I feel I look so good and then it literally wipes off. Sorry for my rambling, but I'm frustrated that I'm paying good money to not really get very tan and then have the bronzer come off anyway. Help?
