I've read a lot of negative things around here about facial tanners. Things like: they don't really work as well to tan your face as regular UV bulbs do and that they are actually worse for your skin than regular UV bulbs. So I'm wondering why separate facial tanners even exist in beds when they really don't live up to their primary function(s). And if I should scoot down or lay the opposite way during my tanning session so I can get better color on my face and to keep it healthier. Any thoughts?

They do work as they are intended if you use them properly! Due to the bulbs being a large percentage UVA, you need to occasionally use tube style lamps with a higher percentage of UVB to stimulate melanin production so all the UVA from the high pressure bulbs has something to work with. I would recommend every couple of sessions you flip and put your feet under the facials so your face can get under the tube lamps.
Higher percentages of UVA do increase premature aging, I believe, but tanning in general does that to you.
