Ok, the base beds where I tan had 160W bulbs in them and I got really good color from just those, no HP or anything. They just got the bulbs changed and they say 100W.... that just seems like a light bulb to me! Am I even going to get any color from the beds now? Does anyone else tan in just 100W bulb beds? Whats the deal? I've never been in a bed with 100W bulbs.....

Those are the older base bulb levels and many 20 minute beds still have them. The UVA/UVB ration may be higher so you could still build color.

100 watt bulbs are base bed bulbs. this means you can tan for longer in them and they are some good 100watt beds about. I cant find them anywhere in my city the lowest we have is 160 watt and most salons are 200watt and 225watt. You will get good colour but you certainly will have to increase your time unfortunately. I always prefer a stronger watt bed because I hate standing and laying for more than 15 mins it get boring.

TBP and Paul have got it. Low pressure (or base) beds have tanning lamps generally around 100-220 watts and are higher in UVB. Usually, the higher the power, the shorter the session.

moving to electric sun.

100w Hi-Tans from Cosmedico will get you dark.Granted they will chew your skin up,they are so high in uvb.

And doesn't the 9k90 come in a 100 watt lamp now?It is so low in uvb,it's comparable to a hp lamp.

I guess we need to know what kind of lamp it is,actually.

the puretan base beds at my salon have 100w bulbs but they are larger beds with more bulbs - typically a "super bed" or whatever at another salon and the max time on them is 15. I just went in one for the first time last night~! ha. It was my first base bed visit in months. =)

I typically tan in my salons 100 watt beds and i get great color from them... downfall is that you do need longer times in them, however, i think of it as my 'daily uninterupted, get away from life, nap time' so i usually don't mind it.... except for the days that i can't fall asleep in there... then i tend to go a bit stir crazy in there. :D

I believe they are Sunmaster bulbs. I intentionaly looked so I could ask about them on here and not only did I forget to mention it in my origanal post, but now I'm not sure of the name! And theres not a whole lot of bulbs, I think I counted that its a 24 blub bed? I think, I'm not sure, I'll recheck tonight. Thanks by the way for your imput so far.

What type of bed is it? Most base beds are 100 watters.

Ok, I checked, they're sunmaster custom plus 100W bulbs. It's a 24 bulb bed, but I don't know the name of it. There's a 15 min max time, and that was fine for when they had 160W bulbs, but seems kinda short for 100W's. Oh well, I'll keep going, even if it's not at strong as it was before something is better then nothing.

I have never used a bed with 100watt bulbs. Even the 30 minute base beds in my salon use the 160watt bulbs.

Pulseczar (http://www.iamtan.com/member.php?u=7332): Even the 30 minute base beds in my salon use the 160watt bulbs. My salon's 20 minute (http://www.iamtan.com/rate_bed.php?go=showitem&item_id=105&cat_id=8)base (http://www.iamtan.com/rate_bed.php?go=showitem&item_id=105&cat_id=8)beds (http://www.iamtan.com/rate_bed.php?go=showitem&item_id=105&cat_id=8) use 120 watts.

Interesting....

They could be 100 watt reflector lamps. Those would have a 15 minute time. The beds I have used have used the reflector and had 15 minute limit those were that salons base level bed also.

so is a 20min time in a 100 watt bed a 'rip-off'? why would other salons have 160 watt for 30 mins? or 120watts for 20 mins?
