Does it take longer to get a tan when the lamps' rays (I guess I worded that right..) have less UVB (I think that's the burning ray.. lol) rays than base beds that have a higher UVB?

You have to tan alot more gradual with beds with higher uvb due to the increased chance of burning.

Good answer Summers Tan....You also have to go more often because the higher UVB promotes exfoliation. It is important to use a good indoor lotion when you tan inside and use an after care lotion in the morning and at night to help slow down that exfoliation.

i've been tanning in only upgrade beds which have lower % of UVB in the lamps and it's taken me a long time to get dark...over 2-3 months..i wouldn't even say that i'm classifed as "dark" yet. I'm naturally pale, so my body doesn't produce alot of melanin so really i need more UVB so i can increase my melanin production...but it sucks because most of the salons around my area don't have base beds!

Correct me if I'm wrong, Its been awhile since I've brushed up on my facts...

The skin naturally exfoliates about every 30 days but when exposed to UVB it speeds up the exfoliation process to about every 5-7 days. Not only that but dry skin exfoliates faster so that is why it is so important to moisturize.

Also, Tanning isn't just a color thing. When stimulated by UVB, the skin releases both melanin and keratin (which is the substance that makes up most of your epidermis - the outer layer of skin). When keratin reaches the top layer of the epidermis, it hardens to form a protective layer that and causes the current layer to shed.

You are correct. This is another reason I prefer hp to low pressure tanning. It doesn't interfere with the natural exfoliation of your skin like higher uvb so your skin doesn't get flakey.

darn, you guys know your stuff... Good to hear that people are educated about their bodies. Everything that was said is absolutely true. Low pressure promotes exfoliation and you have to come more often where as lower pressure dosen't expediate the exfoliation and keeps your tan longer and have to come less often.

OOPS! meant High pressure dosent expediate exfoliation....
