Just started tanning and would like to know a bit more about stand ups. Should I have a base tan before switching to a stand up?

You can use a stand-up or lay down to build a base tan, you just need to make sure that you are tanning for the recommended time for your skin type - each unit is different so you need to adjust your time according to the type of unit you're using.

Stand up booths are great for evening out your tan. Of course it's so much more relaxing to lay in a bed.

I hope you enjoy your first experience, valifay. Make sure to report back to us.

One tip: Make sure you are well hydrated before going tanning. I've gotten a bit dizzy sometimes after using a booth if I don't have enough water in my system.

will do cincy! Thanks for your imput. My skin type is a 3A and this will only be my second time going. How long would you suggest I go for?

Since I don't know what type of bed or lamps you'll be using, I couldn't give you a time. You should discuss it with your salon to determine the best schedule for you.

Try not to go too long the first time because it is a new type of unit for you and you don't want to get dizzy/dehydrated or burn. But you'll find that alternating between beds and booths is the best way to maximize your color.

Thanks lady's! I'm so glad I found this site or I would be totally lost. (or bugging the attendant to insanity) You all share such great info. I'll let you know how it works out! Ahhh, I can't wait to get off work and go to the salon!! (7hrs to go.)

So I just got back from the salon. I tried the stand up and it was pretty cool. I could def. feel I was getting a more even tan. The only prob was I went after work, which ended up very hectic and got tired of standing. So, next time I think I'll do the stand up before work. Definetly gonna stick w/ the lay down bed after work. But it was a good time! thanks for all your wonderful words of wisdom!!! Happy tanning!

I like to go in the standup more often so I get a nice even tan. I also ta in the Cayenne bed because I love the facials. I go more in the standups because I have a dark complexion naturally so if I go in the Cayenne more than once a week I get too dark. I don't like to over do it.
You ca go in either one depending on your skin type. It doesn't matter if the unit is a lying or standing it matters on the bulb wattage. As your salon what they think is the best for you. If the standup is higher wattage than the bed go in for fewer minutes than you would the base bed.
