Do goggles filter out 100% of both UVA and UVB rays?
Because its been about 30 mins sinc eI've tanned, and my eyes have that "burning" feeling. I wore my goggles the entire session, and no light peeped in. They were my fav kind of goggles, too, because of that very reason (Peepers).
So I was wondering if maybe they only filtered out 90% or something of the rays.
Anyone? My eyes hurt

Good question. I get that feeling too sometimes. I don't know if it's just dryness or if it's from the uv rays. I use ultra sunglobes. Hope someone has an answer for this.

I really don't know the answer to this with any certainty. But can we rule out a few things? 1) It's big time allergy season down here-everything is blooming. Could that be part of it? 2) Spending a lot of time in front of a computer can bother your eyes-I should know about that! 3) Is it possible that you got something on your goggles?

Just tossing out a few possibilities.

Very good possibilities....and I'm pretty sure the computer thing has something to do with it, although I have hardly 30-45 minutes a night on the computer anymore (weeknights that is). But then again, right when I Got home from tanning I got on the computer for about 10 minutes and just after that they started to hurt Maybe the combo strained my eyes?

You know, today when I was in the tanning bed I was wondering if goggles blocked out UV Rays 100% too! You read my mind...
I hope someone has some insight on this.

Maybe email Brenda at Eyepro and ask what the specs to meet FDA compliance are? Just a suggestion.

FDA requires that all eye protection sold has to be approved to block all UVA and UVB light to protect your eyes during the tanning process (FDA 21CFR 1040.20 Approval). Your eyes could have that "burning" feeling because of the dry heat in the bed. Some eye protection also allow more non damaging light through making it bright in the bed and that could make your eyes feel that way as well.

Additionally, I read that every year you should replace your goggles every year, due to break down of the material which allows some UVA and UVB rays in.

The disposable ones are a sure way of getting the best eye protection. You don't have to clean them and you get a new clean pair each time you tan.
