Since I am new to this, I don't want to spend a fortune finding the right lotion, moisturizer, ect. Are there any good places to purchase samples at a reasonable price?

If your salon doesn't carry samples of the products you're wanting to try you should call around to the other salons in your area. I've been able to find most of the popular brands at my local salons.

I have to agree.. salons usually carry quite a few brands and different ones will have different brands to choose from.
There are lots of good starter lotions out there. My personal favorite right now is Designer Skin Secret Rapture. No bronzer or tingle in it. Nice, thick, moisturizing and smells so yummy! I think it would be great for a beginner as well as advanced tanner. There is also Cal Tan who offers some great lotions like "Butter". Good luck!

every salon i've ever been to has samples and if you shop around, you can sample a lot of different lotions. and i definitely recommend sampling before buying.
I've gotten most of my samples from salons. I've also gotten a bunch from trades when nice people throw in a few samples

If you hit 2 or 3 different salons, you should find 5 or 6 different brands to check out.

to iamTan
First, take a scan thru Love It or Shove It, Tanning Newbies and Tanner's Den to get an idea about the different lotions available. Then, check out the the Lotions Rating Section where you will find the various lotions, listed by Brand, and rated by the lovely, knowledgable people of iamTan. You can also "search" and type in "lotions"..that will give you tons of reading. Happy Tanning

it's cheapest to buy whole bottles, try a few samples til you like one, then get it, Cal Tan has some cheap ones, and Emerald Bay.....

I won't be considered a traitor for going to a salon just to check out their lotion samples?

how many times can you use a sample lotion? Do you usually use it up in one session?

It really depends on the brand. Most packets contain between .5 - .75 oz of lotion. There are a few that are a whole once but they're rare. Most packets last me only a session. I guess it just depends on how dry your skin is and your body size.

About half the time, depending on the package size,I only use a half a packet or a little more.I keep paper clips in my tanning bag to keep them closed. Then I'll use that if I don't seem to have quite enough another time.Or I give the left overs to my tanning buddy to try.

I use an entire packette for one visit.

My packette lasts 1.5 tans normally, sometimes one and sometimes two full sessions. But then again, I don't put lotion on my back.
I find Swedish Beauty's packettes to be pretty "big" compared to others - .67 oz.
But, Swedish Beauty's/AG's samples seem very pricey IMO. $7-8 for a sample of lotion isn't very reasonably priced, but I would s till rather try a sample before buying to see if i would like it or not.

Scott, are you tanning? I thought you were still doing the self-tanner mostly.
