It's been my experience, eating healthy is very expensive. Following the South Beach diet here!

it's a lot more flexible than atkins, boo. And from what I've read a lot healthier , too.

i've heard atkins has driven the price of beef up quite a bit....

Try to eat a lot of salad and stuff.. Salad is cheap. And it's cheaper if you don't drink sodas too

I've done atkins for quite a while and went from a size 14/16/18 to weighing only 118 pounds and wearing size 8.

I love it! Even tho I'm far past induction, I still stay under 30 carbs per day. Induction is 20.

yeah drink a lot of water, and defnately cut out sodas, they are so unnecesary, try to keep junk food to a low of course too.

I gave up sodas for my new year's resolution and I haven't had one yet... it's been REALLY easy, I guess the coffee kinda curves the addiction

Hmm, i don't know how you guys do it. I eat like a pig and don't gain an ounce, but that will come to and end once i stop growing like a weed.
I would just try drinking water all day. Give yourself a reward after loosing so many pounds. Thats what my moms friend did. She'd order a pizza like once every 2-3 weeks. Good luck

I never gain any weight from eating like a pig either, I just don't lose it... So I'm dieting and eating right and the lbs are comin' off

Just try to exercise 5x a week, take the weekends off. Limit your sugar intake, if you crave something sweet, try one of those low-carb bars. Every brand has jumped on the low-carb bandwagon lately, I see even slimfast has a 2 or 3 net carb drink out now. I tried the slimfast plan, didn't lost on it..duh...each shake had about 30g of carbs on it. Once I switched to EAS (1g, I think), it made a big difference. If you can keep your blood sugar at a constant level, you'll have much more energy, and fewer cravings. This means when you do eat carbs, make them count, ie, whole grain. Protein sticks to your ribs longer too. It doesn't mean eating steak and eggs for breakfast, though. Usually for breakfast I have either a scrambled egg on whole-wh toast, or in a low-carb tortilla wrap. Lunch is a boca burger or soup, and dinner is something healthy.

I also work out for at least 30 min a day, 5x a week. I run, do aerobics, and kickbox.

The key is to output more calories than you put in, on a regular basis. I also don't eat after 7pm, no matter what, and drink plenty of water. It works..went from 140, now at 105, and this is after two kids-lol!

Oh..darn, forgot about cheap food. Chicken is relatively inexpensive, I always try to buy organic though, and if not that, Tyson or Perdue. You can freeze it, and it lasts a long time. I also do a lot of things with Herb-ox boullion, it's low sodium, and cheap. Fruit is usually cheap, canned, fresh or frozen. Like right now I only buy strawberries frozen, they're so expensive when they're out of season!! Also same with veggies..we buy a lot of the frozen stuff, and have stirfries. There's a store by us called ALDI, their food is rock bottom cheap..I get a lot of the basics there.

In a regular grocery store, it helps if you remember to try to stick to the perimeter of the store...veggies, fruit, meats, dairy..that's where all the good stuff is. All of the junk food crap is in the center aisles.

Hope that helps some... Kris

I like the Atkins better than the South Beach. It keeps you on track better and is much more scrict. From my experience those diets that are more flexible can throw your diet for a curve and you find yourself going back to eating all the bad stuff again.

And for the skeptics, find me someone who has followed Atkins properly and developed health problems from it. I'd like to hear about this.

I follow Atkins..well, in moderation. I love fruit too much to do the induction. But if you read the book, he clearly outlines all of the myths, like kidney problems, trouble with ketosis, all of that stuff. It's very interesting. By using Atkins as a basis, it's really helped me..the whole key was cutting back on the carbs, I had no idea. I was always counting calories, and watching fat. There will always be skeptics, no matter what the latest craze may be, but I think the whole Atkins thing really made a lot of people re-evaluate what they were eating, so I think it's becoming more of a lifestyle thing. I'm wondering if they'll be changing the food pyramid?

Exercise is the key to losing weight. I still eat JUNK and still keep losing weight and keep it off since I work out every darn day. BUT if your looking for some gooooood healthy food well on the healthy side here is what I have lived on the past 8 months of dieting. Lean Pockets, Chicken breasts, Fruits and Veggies of all kind, Slimfast shakes and WATER. That is basically what I have lived one and still do most of the time.

AMEN TO HONEYBEE

AMEN TO MONKEYGIRL

When you actually do your own independent research and read the Atkins book, you see that there is no valid medical proof of any of the bad things from Atkins...I feel 100x better staying between 20 and 30 carbs a day. And I look 1000x better!

http://www.latortillafactory.com I love these tortillas and they have been in my menus a lot lately. 10 for about 3 bucks at the grocery store or online. Awesome and only 3 net carbs per.

I keep hard boiled eggs on hand and make egg salad, throw it in a wrap and go. Yummy and so little carbs!

I stay between 20 and 30 carbs too, but I really messed myself up during Christmas. So much bad food was being passed around and it was so delicious. I am considering doing induction again, except for about a month this time; just to get my body back to strictly burning mainly fat.

I still re-do induction whenever I feel like I might be slipping.

HoneyBee, have you checked out the Low Carb Cafe online? Nice cookbook there.
