the lease on my beloved Jeep Cherokee is up.... so I need to get a new car. Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom, Jeep stopped making the Cherokee and replaced it with the Liberty which I really hated at first but am now warming up to....
not sure what I'm going to do. I could go with the poor teacher angle and get a little car that is good on gas like a Civic or Jetta. Or I could stick with the tough-cookie-chica thing and get another SUV.
It would nice to drive a stick again and to have a little car, but I'm so used to the 4 wheel drive.... man I'm so mad at Jeep for making this difficult. I would get another Cherokee again in a second if I could.

mitzi, I'm a teacher! that is waaaaaaaaaaay out of my price range!!
if $$ were no object I'd get the Toyota 4Runner. unfortunately, that is not the case and unless I meet a rich sugar daddy in the next 7 days, I am not going to be driving a 4Runner around town.

We've got a 2003 Civic (my husband's) and a 2002 Mazda Protege5 (mine). I love the Pro5 because it handles like a small car with great gas mileage but it looks so sporty!

We just recently got a 2003 Honda Pilot. That thing is so nice. It has a Satelite Navigation System, Good sound system, 4/4. Really nice.
Can't you just buy the jeep when it comes off lease?

Wow, I am surprised they discontinued the Cherokee. Wonder what they were thinking. I love my Blazer and I can't wait for my next vehicle which will be the new Trailblazer.

DO NOT GET A VOLKSWAGON!!!!! I had a Cabrio and The timing belt went out which bent all of the valves in my engine.... then the mechanic looked at everything and everything had gone to **** in a hand basket. The mechanic couldn't even understand how it drove. I spent $3,000 fixing it after 3 months of owning it. I couldn't trust the car anymore so I sold that POS. Got Honda Accord! Happy as can be!! Pilots are cute but maybe pricey. 4runners are great. Love toyota because we still have an 85 Camry that runs great!

Great choice on the Honda. We have had four in our family over the years and two went way over 100k miles with virtually no problems.

njchica, I have a 2002 Civic EX and I love it. Too bad the Si was out of my price range because I would have snapped that one up in a second. Getting 330 to 375 miles per tank at $13.5 to $16 per tankful isn't too bad. Mine's blue...
Too bad they stuck in an incredibly bad sounding factory sound system in the thing but I helped that somewhat with a powered sub.

I had a Civic before my Jeep... a great 5-speed that I loved. I asked for another stick but they didn't have any on the lot and time was of the essence.
so now I have an adorable black lil car..... that's automatic. hehe

YEAH STICKS ARE FUN IN SMALL CARS AND SPORTS CARS. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC EVERYDAY!

Colorgod, I can relate!
Last year, just after I got my new Civic, I drove to Tennessee to see my relatives there. There was MASSIVE traffic backup out the yin-yang on I-40 due to construction and I have a feeling that my left leg was much stronger after the trip! You see, its been roughly 10 years since owning my first car and it was stick shift. The next 2 were automatics and this one is a 5 speed stick. But NO WAY will I ever have a 4 cylinder automatic car ever again. The auto transmission just takes up too much power away from the engine. Of course when I owned a 5.0 mustang, that really wasn't an issue .
