Hey everyone i just joined last night and i had a couple of quick questions. My hair is redish/brown and i have blue eyes, and of course the freckles to go with it. I had used a tanning bed once burned a couple of times and only got a small tan out of it.
Is there any lotions that i can use that will help me tan a little bit better. I was laying in the tanning bed 20 minutes a day after first couple of wks. about 4 days a wk. and never got anything. I am wondering if it could be cause of the cheap tanning lotions that i was using.
We are going back to our hometown(Orlando,fl.) in june and i would love to go back with a nice tan.
Any suggestions???

from what you said you sound pretty fair skinned. i would go to a salon where you know has GOOD bulbs all the time so you're getting results. you need to start out slow so you don't burn. i would reccomend starting at 9 minutes and go for 9 minutes every other day for 3 sessions. then up it to 11 miunutes and go for 11 every other day for 3 sessions, etc etc.
Do you have any tan at all now? If not, I'd reccomend a light DHA Bronzer or a basic acclerator. What lotion brands does your salon carry?
Also always remember to WEAR THOSE GOGGLES because you don't want night vision loss!!!

Welcome to the board,Christie.Glad you decided to become a member.First off, there is a skin typing questionere thread somewhere around here.Try doing a search on skin typing. If you are a type 1,it may not even be possible for you to get a tan.But hey, there is always sunless which has its benefits.I'll try to find the questionare link & bump it for you.
cjacobsen welcome to the board! You may be be light skinned to get a tan. What did the people at your salon say? They should tell you what skin type you are and recommend how many minutes.

Welcome cjacobsen! I'm glad you joined. Do you get a tan outdoors? If you dont get a tan outdoors, its unlikely you will tan indoors. Also, what lotions do you have available at your salon? We can help you pick out a lotion that way. If you have California Tan lotions available to you.. I'm going to recommend Ambrosia.. I have nothing but great things to say about that lotion. I would say you could try a bronzing lotion but I'm always paranoid about getting it on even. I dunno how bronzing lotions work on fair skinned people though...

My niece has strawberry blond hair and really fair skin, blue eyes...
I got her to get a nice tan this past summer with swedish hemp creme (or you could use AG HOT!) and then she bumped up to a little browning syrup.

Well, like some of the others have already said, if you can't achieve a tan outdoors, it's unlikely you'll tan indoors. Sunless tanners might be the best option for you. If you can develop a tan, you need to start out at the minimum time according to the bed manufacturer and your skintype and gradually increase your time. You really should tan every other day 3-4 times a week. You should NEVER burn in a tanning bed.
Also, start out with a tanning lotion for developing a base tan. What lotion lines does your salon carry? Emerald Bay's Dark'n'Dazed, or Australian Gold's Dark tanning acclerators are good for building a base tan. If you use a bronzer I would be careful, if you're not dark enough for it, it will turn you orange.
And please, to all you high risk tanners out there, BE CAREFUL!
