we had a great thread about this somewhere.... Most people find that tanning dries out their hair. How do you .combat this? What do you do to take care of your hair?
I use John Frieda's Life Preserver in the afternoons and again before bed. It's a coconut-scented oil that conditions and protects hair from damage. I also use Pantene's deep conditioning treatment once or twice a week in the shower....

I put a leave in conditioner in my hair and put it in a ponytail before I go to tan. Then I cover my hair up with a towel when I am tanning. I am paranoid about my honey colored highlights getting bleached white, which is what happened to me before. Bad news. You gotta protect your hair especially if you are blonde and don't want to turn into a white blonde!

I use reddken products in my hair, the only time I usually have dry problems is mostly when I am in the pool. Then I will use cello gloss treatment by nick chavez (qvc.com) It adds back shine and moisture, its a gloss that you put into towel dried hair, put on a cap and use blow drier for 15 minutes, then shampoo out. works good safe for color treated too

I use the tannie cap while tanning. It blocks out UV so it won't strip the color or moisture from your hair. Sell lots of them as well. Which reminds me to order more.

I also use a tanning cap. It's really helped. I also use a detoxifying shampoo from Aveda on a regular basis.

I use a hot oil treatment on color-treated hair (naturally blonde, but lightened a couple shades) a couple times a week and that restores the softness and body. I also use Infusium 23 treatment cond.

I'm putting light blonde highlights in my hair tomorrow so I bought a regular shower cap to wear while tanning. I don't know how well it's going to work but at least it makes me feel like I'm being pro-active about it.

there is no way on God's Green Earth that I could get my hair to stay straight. It's naturally wavy and I just don't have the patience or know-how to get it straight. I am just embracing the waves these days. hehehehe
with chemically treated hair the cap is a must, or hair beecomes brittle and the color fades 10 times faster

Hey Angela...Did you buy a CHI? I love that darn thing. I have naturally curly hair (frizzy when it is humid which is all the time here in FL) and I will NEVER EVER live without my CHI again. I wish I had had it as a teenager. There is no such thing as a bad hair day with it, I swear. It is worth every penny and then some. As much as I love my tan, I would give tanning up for my CHI if I had to choose. I hate my natural hair.

I have been very paranoid with my hair lately.... i used to have white blonde and honey blonde high lights, along with light brown lowlights.... well i just put a lot more white blonde and honey blonde into it for summer (i loovveee it)... but im scared the highlights are going to turn yellowy and my hair will dry out... so i have been covering with a towel, n e other suggestions...
ps.... there are no salons that carry the Tannie Cap in my area

I was reading up on this very thing lately and (get this) washing your hair is the main culprit. Try using conditioner to wash your hair with. Yes it does get it clean and no it will not be greasy and gross. Rinse it really well. Apparently the same chemicals are in the shampoo and condtioner so.....I have tried it, but admit to using one conditioner to wash with and another to condition, lol, hard to break thae habit.......

i put some in my hair a little while ago.... i didn't have time to straighten it today since i am going to tan in a little bit (i'm bringin my daddy for his first time tanning) so i figured i'd throw some life preserver in it so it conditions while i tan.

This is a CHI. It's made by Farouk, the company that makes Biosilk/Silk Therapy products. Biosilk/Silk Therapy are the products I use on my hair.

I have long naturally curly hair, and what I do is go tanning with my hair towel dried w/ my gel and stuff in..when I get out, my hair is very full and has pretty curls. It is almost like baking my hair i'm sure, and it probably isn't good for it, but I use a lot of conditioner and don't have damaged hair so it must not be too bad for it!

My hairdresser kills me for doing the tanning! Says it dries my hair out like crazy!
What I do is keep my hair covered while tanning, as I color and tanning can zap the coloring QUICK, especially when using a red color (red always fades quick anyway due to low pigmentation in the dyes)
I condition daily with Garnier Fructis conditioner for Dry/Damaged Hair, and twice a week I use their 3 minute formula, or Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.
I also use a leave in conditioner, Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner, since I also blow dry and use a curling iron. Another good tip is to not wash your hair daily. I also let go sometimes and air dry my hair, since heat products can dry out your hair too.

I don't know if anyone has said this, but I LOVE hemp shampo & conditioner!!! it's not just for lotions Try your health foord store, they should carry some, it not, ask them to. I personaly like the Jason brand best, but Sundog makes an ok one. I also like to take pure hemp oil, some virgen olive oil, and some essential oil of rosemary, mix it together and use it as a hot oil hair treatment. Way silky!

I use a leave in conditioner that my hairdresser recommended about 2 years ago called Saturation (by Brocato). This stuff is great!! I used to have so much breakage and split ends from tanning and styling (irons, products, etc) but not anymore. I only pay about $12 a bottle and it lasts forever!

I use Biolage hydrating shampoo and conditioning solution. I have fine, straight hair, so these products always work well with my hair type. They are very light and smell good too. On those days when my hair get's extra dry from tanning, I spray on the the Biolage Leave-in-Tonic after I shower. It helps get all the knots out and adds moisture & lots of shine.

I've been looking at Target and Walmart since I saw it mentioned on this thread, but I haven't found it.
When I go tanning I put on a turbie towel to protect the color. I am a Red Head by choose! Who knows what color it would be by now! I also use a leave in conditioner when I shampoo.

Hey, I have to second the use of CHI products. My daughter has super tight curls and has them chemically relaxed. She hates when I use the straightener on her but I have to in order to keep knots out. Her hairdresser had put CHI Silk Infusion in her hair before she straightened it and her dry hair just disappears! It is wonderful. She is mixed, so I have tried everything for dry hair. Plus, I have curly hair myself that is highlighted blonde. I use the product too and just love it. Even though it is an oil, it isnt oily. I used to use carrot oil in her hair and it was so messy. But this stuff just isnt. Sorry Im going on and on. I just love this stuff so much!

i dont know if a towel works just as well since a towel doesnt block as much of the uv as the tannie cap (if water can get thru it uv can get thru it)
