Ok, I will be looking for an outdoor tanner once spring gets here -- I have no idea what to look for yet.
I have spent the last 4 hours searching and looking at old posts.
I found one that was interesting. Maui Babe got alot of good reviews. In fact, I bought it when I was in Hawaii.
First ingredient is: light mineral oil.
Sooo, does it still get good reviews? I put it on my face in Hawaii and now I have extremely dry skin. It is flaking!
I'm thinking (after reading all the stuff on mineral oil) it's from the Maui Babe. But, I don't know.
Give me some input....
Lots of lotions can be used for outside. Just stay away from tingles. I'd also stop using the lotion with mineral oil. It's terrible for your skin! I'd recommend a good moisturizer for your face now. I use Hope in a Jar and it's great. I bet it would get rid of your flaky skin right away.
Welcome to the board!

Thanks Val. Yeah, in fact, I just bought a brand new bottle of Curel -- at least it was only 5.00. But it has petrolatum in it. I've always used it but, I still have itchy skin. For now, I found a bottle of rejuvanating cream made my NuSkin. I had a friend who worked for NuSkin and would bring me products for free. I'm sure it's an expensive bottle of cream but it has no mineral oil in it. Looks like good ingredients. It's just sitting in my closet. Might as well use it up.
I looked at the Hope in a Jar -- it's kind of steep in price for me right now.
Have you heard of Big Kahuna Lotions?
I found it doing a search on the internet -- lotions without mineral oil. Check it out at:http://www.bigkahunalotions.com/shoppingcart.htm
I did order Saving Face and Total Immersion on line. I haven't started the tanning bed deal yet. When I do, I was thinking, Swedish Beauty's Hemp Creme.
I'd watch out for lotion with petroleum also. Yea hope in a jar is expensive.
Saving Face is a great lotion! I'm sure you'll love it.
If you're on a budget a good beginner lotion is Brown Envy by Synergy. You can get a bottle for around $10. A lot cheaper then swedish hemp cream!

I would recommend a facial product from a tanning salon for your flaky face. Try the JA Carotene and the JA Vitamin Milk. The Carotene cream is a facial tanning accelerator but can also be used for a daily mositurizer. You can even use it under makeup.
I use the Vitamin Milk daily under my bronzing powder. And everyone that I have sold these two products always repeat purchases of them.

I really like Swedish Hemp Creme for tanning indoors and outdoors. I get good color with it and the price is really good considering how good this lotion works! You need to stay away from tingles outside, and bronzers too, if you're going to be in the water at all (the dha won't have time to set). Other than that you can use any lotion you want outside. Just remember to layer the lotion you use outside with spf!

protect your skin outdoors. always use a product with an spf in it.

ok, now for a stupid question... I've heard the spf number means how long you can supposedly stay out without getting burned.
So, if I use a product that has a 15 spf -- how much will this protect and will I still get color using this??
Last year I had a job gig that had us outside all day long. From 6:00am til midnight. It was hot and sunny. I didn't want to get any sun so I put on my Bullfrog spf of 50 and I didn't get anything at all the two days we were outside.

I guess I should use up my NuSkin products then. My friend gave me a bag full of stuff. I looked up the price on some of the stuff and almost fell off my chair!
I tend to collect stuff - hair products, try different lotions etc. I guess it's better to switch from one product to another sometimes.
I guess I'm a product junkie. If anyone looks in my closets and under the bathroom sinks - they'd worry about me. LOL

you have to see if the lotions is uva blocking, uvb or both. which is it?

The Bull Frog is both UVA/UVB protection. Is that why I didn't get anything?? What should I look for in a sunscreen so that I won't burn outside but, get some color?
My face cream - Aveda Tourmaline SPF 15 -- it doesn't say on the bottle which protection it is. It's got Titanium Dioxide.

SPF refers to how long you can stay in the sun without burning. Say, if you burn in the sun without sunscreen in 20 minutes, if you use a sunscreen with spf 4 you can stay in the sun for 80 minutes without burning (20x4=80).

A lot of indoor products are great for outdoor use. They are really interchangable when it comes to tanning outdoors. Now with the tanning in the salon, only indoor tanning product should be used for obvious reasons. Hmmm I had some lists of products on here and NuSkin was in there and they deleted it. So not sure how to tell you where, how and what the cost is of mine. Happy tanning.

you can tan thru sunscreens. you should always use sunscreen while tanning oudoors. even OVER your indoor product. never EVER let yourself burn.

be careful with the Total Immersion, it has petrolatum as the second ingredient. I hate the stuff totally.

Jayell: Oh you've got to be kidding!!? I just bought some Total Immersion .
What other product could I get?? My salon carries Calif. Tan and swedish beauty. I guess I won't be tanning for a few weeks now tho because I need to get rid of these white spots first.
But, I'll need a beginner tanning lotion - level 1. And a good moisturizer to go along with it.
Someone suggested getting Swedish Beauty's hemp (I think that's what it is called...)

nope I'm dead serious! I don't like very many CalTan products for that very reason, mineral oil & petrolatum makes me break-out badly. Swedish Beauty makes some great tanning lotions, but I don’t care for their after tan moisturizer (I’ve tried both w/ hemp & the plain one) they are thin & watery and not very moisturizing. The after tan lotions I really like the best are Angel by Designer Skin and Hempz from Supre. Hempz is my favorite, it is super thick & lasts for a long time.

Ok... so I can go for the Swedish Beauty tanning lotion and maybe Angel for the moisturizer. What about Austrialian Gold products? My salon carries that also.

I don't really like Australian Gold products, but I do know Double Dipped Ice creame is a good bronzer by them. A bronzer = An ingrediant (DHA) that takes (atleast) 4 hours to show up and lasts 3-4 days, depending on which bronzer and how your skin reacts.
When you're farther along down the road in your tanning stage, you should use this lotion (Double Dipped Ice Creme), but for now (base tan), I would stick to the Swedish Hemp Creme.
Good luck
