How old is too old?

When looking at used beds, how old is too old? I mean on the average how long do the balasts, fans, etc last? How many hours do the average bulbs last? Gathering info for now, would love to open my own place.

good question cus my salon's base beds are pretty old.

It all depends on how well cared for the beds are. Ballasts can be replaced as can fans. Average bulbs (120W) are rated to 1200 hours (I change mine sooner). Regardless of the age fo the beds, the bulbs and acrylics will need to be replaced on a regular basis.
I bought a salon with some older beds and I can assure you that I am replacing them as soon as I get the chance. Three are already gone (!) and I have three older ones that will be retired in the next 6-9 months. Newer beds just look nicer. One of mine is a 1993 model - gives great color, runs like a champ. I just like the look of new.
