I've never tried either, but then again i've never heard of the hollywood tans booths. I would go with the Mystic, just because they are the orginal producers....

Is there a Magic Tan close to you? If it is not the best, it will be soon.

I have a Mystic in my salon, so I might be bias. The Mystic has the magnatan. What that does is gives your body a positive charge and the solution has a negative charge. Don't worry, you can't feel it and it can't hurt you. What that does is allows the Mystic spray to adhere to you better and give you a more even tan. You also don't have to stand in all these different weird postions when your sprayed. I have never had a complaint, but I have heard people who have complained about streaking with the Hollywood tan.

I've never used either but I have heard an overwhelming preference for Mystic over Hollywood - There has been a lot of complaints about the hollywood tan streaking.

I own two Hollywood Tans salons, and we receive a ton of customers who have tried Mystic and have had problems with streaking. Our process is a quick 6 second spray, while Mystic will douse you with anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds of DHA solution... definite overkill, and often times can result in a "dirty" look. Just my opinion, but I'd go with Hollywood Tans (once again, I'm definitely biased, but I'm a customer of the Instant Tan booth).

For the record, Hollywood Tans holds a patent on the Instant Tan booth, and are the actual originators of the technology.

By the by, you can call a Hollywood Tans salon near you for yourself and check out the process first-hand... locations are listed at www.hollywoodtan.com. My two salons have been very busy, especially regarding the Instant Tan booths, so if you go to an HT salon, you'll probably be able to see a customer doing an Instant Tan so that you can view the results first hand.

Sell your wares somewhere else. This is a consumer site. We don't want to know about patents or originators, just which unit gives the best results. Your comments regarding InstaTan are clouded and thus completely unreliable. Thanks for the attempt.

I have my own write in vote. My favorite is Mist-On. I like the four passes. My friend with folds and sags can adjust each spray and end up with a tan pretty much everywhere. Even places the regular beds have never seen.

i agree with suncity-when i do the mystic booth, i always use a tanning bed for 5-10 minutes first, then do the mystic. works very well!

Baked,

Fair enough, but note that I do use the Instant Tan myself, and love the results. I agree with SunCity... self tanner of any kind, whether it's being applied by an Instant Tan booth, a Mystic Tan, or a spray bottle, seems to work best with darker skin... MUCH more dramatic results.

Also, baked, please note that I'm not trying to hide the fact that I'm a Hollywood Tans salon owner... so you're certainly not "outing" me in that regard, nor do I feel anybody should take my opinion for anything other than consumer advice. I'm proud of the products we offer, and feel strongly that they're of a superior quality to what else is out there. I also feel that the information I've shared IS of relevance to the topic of discussion. If you have a differing opinion, great... that's what forums like this are all about. But can you discredit me simply because I'm offering a biased opinion? SunCity has quite a bit of money tied up into Mystic, but can you take his advise for less than face value because of that fact? I'm just trying to help consumers in the same way as I would if they came to me for advice in my own salon.

Lets get the facts straight JSCachter. Hollywood tans is not the originator of Spray on tanning. Dr. Laughlin's Mist-On was. Aren't you aware of the law suits for patient infringements he's made with Hollywood Tans? If not as an owner of 2 HT's I would suggest you find out for your own protection. Check Mist-on.com. "Douse" you with DHA solution?? It's a very fine mist. With the Magnetan technology you don't need to be "doused". Also it only sprays your front and back for 14 seconds each at the most used level, level 2. The results are a fine coating of solution evenly covering your body. Not drenched like some spray booths we both know. The results are a beautiful even tan, without the orange look or "dirty look". Takes only 6 seconds to cover your whole body? Hmmm I wonder if that can be done with a fine mist? Even if it had the Magnetan technology I doubt that could be done evenly. Appling too much DHA lotion will give you the orange tan and you would be more prone to streaking because it's driping on your body. Now after all that being said, I'm still sure that she would be happy with a spray on tan at HT. And as a salon owner I thank HT for all the marketing they do. It has developed a great desire with the public to tan, which helps all us salon owners.

i've tried mystic before and thought it was pretty good, my hands were the only part of me that turned out crappy.

Holloywood is sprayed on. If you do the Mystic again put a thicker coat of barrier cream on the palms of your hand. Put a lighter coat inbetween your fingers and tops of your hands. And put a thick coat on your nails. Mystic says to just use a dime size of barrier cream for your hands. You need more than that. Follow these directions and you'll love the results.
