I have a mini-rant about my salon I go to about 2 things:
Last Sunday, I was planning to tan, and the salon closes at 6 pm. I arrive there at 5:25, and wait a few minutes for the operator to come up. (She was apparantly cleaning up several rooms) and she says

Lady: "Can I help you??)

Me: "I would like to tan, please".

Lady: "Oh honey, I am closing right now."

Me: "Oh, I thought you were open till 6"...

Lady: "Sorry honey".

Is it just me, or does this seem wrong?? I can get in and out of a 20 minute bed in 25-30 minutes, and been out of there well before 6:00. On top of that, I was planning on upgrading to the cyclone bed (a $16 dollar bed!!) And that would have only been 8 minutes. I know that I am not assertive enough, because I hate conflict, but does this seem right to you??? I have tanned at several salons here in Florida, and back at school in Tulsa, I always try to be considerate of the time, and get there early enough before closing...

2nd story:

I went in on Wednesday afternoon, same salon, same lady working. I was already irked about the Sunday thing, but I was over it, and wanted to upgrade to a regular stand up. I needed to buy a lotion sample, and they have them in small cups, with the lotion bottle displayed behind it. The lady asked if I wanted a tingle lotion, in which I stronly replied NO!. She recommended the Worship samle. So I had heard good things about Worship, and settled on that. I pay for it, picking that sample up from the stack IN FRONT OF Worship, and go on to tan.
Well the instant that turn the bed on, I realize that I have definitely spread tingle lotion allll over my body-face, legs, chest, you name it. I have a decent base tan, but I haven't used tingle lotions in ages. I used to be able to handle Titanium, no problem, but I haven't built up to any kind of tingle as of yet. I finish the session, get of the bed, and go to the counter. I say to the lady, I got a tingle lotion! So I smell the worship, and my used container smells nothing like it. I picked up the sample of Bombshell 100XX or something to the left of that, and yup...that was it. I know for a fact I picked up the worship sample, so it must have gotten switched around or something. I was soo mad, the lady apoligized one hundred times, and I said, oh its okay, its okay...well I was in definite pain for the rest of the day, and between the bed and the lotion, got burned. I put tons of aloe on, so I'm not peeling, but still...

I am sorry this message is so long, but am I blowing things out of proportion? I have tanned there for several years, and the former owner has sold the shop, and this lady works for the new owner. Should I contact the owner, to complain? Or is it no big deal. Tell me the truth, because I was not offered any refund or anything...thank you for reading my rant!!

I agree this lady definetly needs to get it together. If she was rude/ screwed up twice in one week JUST with YOU, one can only imagine how many others were 'victims'!! I think you totally have a reason to rant!! I'm just glad you are one who can tolerate the tingle lotions...I have a friend who used a tingle lotion by mistake and ended up breaking out with tiny little bumps all over her body!
Sorry for the experiences you have had with this particular lady...if it were me, I would def say something to her superior...sounds like she might require more training both on customer service and her 'knowledge' of product.

Absolutely you should speak to the manager/owner/etc. Make it clear that you showed up to the salon with more than enough time to tan before closing, you even planned to upgrade to a more expensive and FASTER bed, you were CONSIDERING buying a bottle of lotion from her salon but had an extremely unpleasant experience with your purchase, you have tanned in several professional salons and NEVER have you encountered service like this.

a good owner will rectify the situation. a bad one will do nothing, in which case you're better off switching salons. good luck and let us know how it works out.

YOU DEFINITELY GOT THE SHORT END OF THE STICK WITH THAT PARTICULAR OPERATER,BUT YOU SURELY
HAVE THE UPPER HAND,SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU'RE THE REASON THE SALON IS OPEN,YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER,AND A CUSTOMER WITH A COUPLE LEGITAMENT GRIPES.IF THE SIGN SAYS CLOSES AT 6:00,
THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK THROUGH THOSE DOORS AT 5:59 AND BEGIVEN THE SAME COURTESIES THAT YOU WOULD RECEIVE IF YOU THE FIRST CUSTOMER OF THE DAY....EITHER THAT OR
THE NEW OWNER SHOULD RE-WRITE HIS CLOSING SIGN TO READ NO CUSTOMERS IN SALON AFTER 6:00.
THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE SALON EMPLOYEE(8 FOR 8 AND THEN SOME)A GOOD BUSINESS IS ONLY
GOOD BECAUSE OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND RIGHT NOW,YOU'ER NOT SATISFIED.I THINK YOU OWE
IT TO YOURSELF,THE NEW OWNER AND MISS UNATTENTIVE TO GET THIS MATTER OUT IN THE OPEN,THAT
WAY,ALL PARTIES OF CONCERN WILL HAVE A MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT'S EXPECTED OF THEM.
ANOTHER THOUGHT,IS MAYBE YOU COULD GET A JOB THERE AND SAVE THAT $16.00...........

Well, if the new owner, workers, or whatever don't pull their socks up, they won't last long with that kind of service. I would speak to the owner about the time discrepency bigtime. The lady had no right to turn you away, especially since it was at least 35 MINUTES TILL CLOSING TIME!!!
I would blow that off just once if that happened to me. But ever again, I will bolt and find another salon. And others would probably follow suit.
I'm rather timid but I can become quite angry when something of that nature happens to me...

That kinda thing happened to my boss's daughter, they dropped her off at the salon 30 minutes before they closed ( they were running to the grocery store while she tanned ) . She went in and the girl told her sorry were closing, so she went out and sat on the sidewalk, while the salon employee locked up and LEFT here there outside in the cold !!!!!!!!!! My boss called and complaied the next day and got no where

at my salon they say they take the tan 15 mins b4 closing but during the busy season if someone walks in at closing time they have to let them tan NO MATTER what bed. even during the slow season they are supposed to let them tan no matter what

We have no cut off time for tanning. If the salon closes at 9 as long as your there by 8:59 you can still tan. Most people don't come in around closing so it's no big deal really. I'm always out by 9:30 no matter what time the last tanner comes in so that works for me.

You need to speak to the owner, that lady will put the salon out of business in a big hurry. bad business!

One salon I go to-I called yesterday to get an appt on the big bed. They close at 4, and I asked if the bed would be available at 330. The answer I got was NO. So I went at 3, which was not as good a time for me. When I was thru tanning, there was no one waiting for a bed and only one other bed in use. I managed to glance at the appt book and NO one was listed on the 330 slot for the bed I wanted. I know the girl wanted to leave asap. This is the second time this has happened but I cannot prove that I was lied to. (And when I did call, the girl sounded soooooo tired, so I'm sure I got the run-around. Needless to say, I will not renew my package there which runs out tomorrow. But I will be back for one last visit..) Oh and I went one day without an appointment during the week, it was 10:10 am and the doors were locked! Grr!

I would definitely tell the owner. As a salon owener myself I would want to know if any of these things have happened. I've fired someone for less than that. They should want a good reputation and with employees like that it's not going to happen. If they don't do anything about the situation you should find another salon.

I would absolutely talk to the owner, especially about the time thing. If you were there more than 1/2 hour before closing they should never turn you away. I was always going to my salon right before closing and never got turned away. I'm sure the owner is not aware of an employee turning away customers if you let the owner know what happened and then again a problem with the lotion with the same employee.....maybe at the very least you'll get a free session.!

Tell the owner. Like Steph, I've run 'em off for lesser offenses.

Good point Sheryl, they really should put up a sign regarding when they take their last appt.

I would tell defintely complain to the owner so it doesn't happen to other tanners. That's awful. If you don't get anywhere with the owner, I'd look for another place to tan.

Complain. Do they have thier hours posted? If so, point to the sighn and say "sorry looks like you may have to clean one more bed tonight." Just kidding...But I would definently say something.
