Hey everyone, I'm going on a new diet that I kind of invented myself... but it's kind of like the Atkins Diet..
I'm only drinking water/diet sodas/flavored water (like lemonade)... and nothing with carbs or very low carbs.
I was just wondering if ya'll could help me..
What are some foods with low carbs or none at all? I'm gonna make a big list!
Thanks

Meats/proteins have no carbs.

I hate to be a spoilsport here, but you're a 17 year old male and you won't be able to sustain a no or low carb diet for long; your metabolism won't stand it. If you want to lose weight, do some daily cardio exercise, drink TONS of water without sugar or supplements, and try to avoid high fat foods. But you need your carbs!

I know what you're saying.. but if i don't do it this way, then i'm just not going to eat...

Not eating is not good for you either. Why don't you stay away from the starchs, like potatoes, pastas and breads. Eat meat, veggies and fruits. You still get some carbs for your body but not the worst ones.

i disagree with the no carb diets..you need a well balanced diet of all food groups..stay away from refined sugars..unnessassary fats..at your age you will mess up your metabolism..well at any age really..fruits veggies.brown rice.no white breads..go to your local health food store they can hook you up..then most of that you can get at the grocery store

All kinds of meat, poultry & fish are mostly no carb but some have a small amount. Cheese is very good to snack on. Sugar free jello & cool whip is a good very low carb snack.

My stepdad and mom have been on the Atkins Diet, and my stepdad has lost 60 lbs and my mom has lost 20... Since the beginning of summer. It works... but the thing is.. they eat ice cream with melted chocolate everynight and they still lose the weight, i don't get it. And from January to May, I lost like 15 lbs, and I don't understand how. I'm not fat at all, but i'm not skinny...

You found your solution; cut the sodas. You drink probably 1000 calories a day from that alone. Do that and you might find over the next few weeks you'll get some real results. Just get all your calories down and up your exercise and keep it up, and you'll get super trim (assuming your body type allows it).

I know I won't get like thin skinny wise, because i've got a football player's build.. but i'll get rid of the excess fat that's on my stomach and chest.. that's where all the crap i eat goes... because my legs and arms are thin.. hah

Start some free weights, man! Get some muscle on those arms and legs and you'll burn some serious fat!

Lol, my mom god rid of our home gym 2 years ago! And I used the thing! I hate her for that! But I'm planning on getting a bowflex or something right after Christmas when I get all my money and stuff.. because I'm trying to save most of my money from work that I get for my new car's downpayment in a year. So I'm definitely getting a home gym.. and I will use it, haha. I know, I used to not drink any sodas for about a month in March, and I dropped the lbs, and after doing that for awhile, the sodas just taste like crap too.. so its all gravy

OMG, have you looked into the Bowflex? I think they have a website. They are SO OVERPRICED!!! It's crazy, like over $1,500 plus shipping! I would gather up your money and go to Sears or something. They have reasonable prices.

Make sure the bread, whenever possible, is whole-wheat. Ditch potatoes and pasta when you can, though not necessarily *always*. Getting your Subway sandwiches turned into salads only costs a little more than a six-inch and actually gives you more to eat, though it's largely lettuce.
And a fair amount of working-out *can* be done just at home without anything. Start with crunches, push-ups, lunges, calf raises, those sorts of things, then once you're into it, get some hand weights--generally not too expensive--and work with those. Home gyms are usually fabulously overpriced if you're just starting out, and most people *don't* keep with them. If you get a routine going without it and can keep it up for awhile, then you can invest and know you're getting your money's worth!

Yeah, the bowflex I agree is extremely overpriced... my friend has like a $300 gym from walmart that works great... its the Stamina Band Flex.. anyone know about this one?

Home gyms are for sissies. Go get a gym membership somewhere. Those home gyms don't put on any muscle, and when you're at home you don't work-out as hard. Don't listen to these people who say to do crunches and push-ups. Those are easy and won't burn any fat. My advice to you is eat about 3000 calories a day, 40-50% carbs, 30-40% protein, and 20-30% fat, then lift weight like a madman. Do deadlifts, presses and squats, you'll get big muscles and lose fat. Do cardio 3 times a week. before you know it youll be getting all of the girls. Holla

i would definatley cut out soda drinks all together, don't even have diet ones, drink lots of water too, it elps keep you full, try exercising a bit more, just dieting won't get you far probably, and eat whole grain dread instead of white bread, oh and dairy products ave been found very good in helping to lose weight, there are mnay recent studies on it. have about 5 servings or dairy a day, this could be no fat yogurt even.

At your age you should be able to burn off the fat by increasing your excercise and just lowering your fat and calorie intake, but you really need to try and eat a balanced diet so you will feel healthy, you don't want to be lacking necessary nutrition. My son has lost 60 pounds over the past year just going to the gym and cutting out the sweets (now he's too thin!)

Are you talking about the 'tension' machines, like the bowflex? If you are I agree, tensions machines are CRAPY. Because the tension is not always reliable & the rods can bounce around. BUT the regular free weights or cable/pully weighted machines work great (that's what most gyms have). You can build muscle just as easily at home.

I disagree. To build muscles you need a lot of free weights, dumbells, and barbells. To buy all of that it would cost a fortune, plus take up quite a bit of space. Maybe home gyms are good for the people who just go through the motions and never attempt to increase their weight they lift. Of course those are the same type of people I see do cardio for hours on end and still manage to stay fat.

Tanpimp we just LOVE to but heads, don’t we!?
My hubby has a pulley type weight machine & you can build muscle lifting any amount of weight. He can increase the weight on it, from 25 lbs min. to 250-300 max. I think. It is somewhat limited (even though most of the things he can’t do even close to the max weight), but for someone who is not trying to become Arnold it is just fine. Now if you plan on benching over 300 lbs (ya right ) you might have to become a member to a gym.

Like I said before, free weights build most of the muscle, not machines.
