i was just wondering about max exposure time in the bed i use... there is a sticker on the side of the bed stating that the max exposure time is 12 mins... yet i see the girls letting ppl go in the beds for 20 mins, can someone clarify? is it safe to go longer then the sticker says??

usually no you should only go by what the max time on the bed and bulbs are.

oh, ok cause i was in there the other day and the girl was like, oh we just put someone in for a 20 min session do u mind waiting? and iw as like... oh ok...(and i read the stickers on the bed and it says max 12 mins...) maybe they have different bulbs in it allowing u to go longer? i know the bulbs arent old as the salon has only been in operation for 3 mths and ive been burned before from them(by accident)

Very unwise to exceed the maximum recommended time and I'm surprised the owner / manager hasn't caught on to this. I would ask why she's letting ppl use that bed for 20 minutes.

My first salon used to offer and extra ammount of time, theyd call it doing a double session, youd pay time and a half... that was back in High school over 10 years ago, i never knew better back then...

I remember going for 30 minutes when I first started tanning. I bet the bulbs weren't as strong back then.

hey when i started tanning back in 1985 40 minute sesssions were the norm.

If this salon that is over exposing ppl has "Smart Tan" certification, I'd start staying away as they really dont care about tanning and shouldn't have certification.

What the labels say on the bed is THE max time. 100 watt lamps are usually 20-30 min exposure, 160+170 watt lamps are usually 12-15 mins, 170watt+ lamps should be less than 12 min.

I'd question them on it if i were you.

I find at many salons, they DON'T let you go for the full maximum time listed on the bed. I've asked and am usually told that they put slightly stronger bulbs in and dropped say, 2 minutes off. They said they could have more ppl get a chance to tan that way, and that those who do use the beds get the same tan since the bulbs are stronger.

I started tanning around 1991 and it's amazing to me how far the technology has come with the beds. I wonder what the future has in store for us in the next 10 years?
