OK...I've got a pretty good base tan now and I think I'm ready for a good bronzer to kick up the color a notch.

I read a lot about DHA bronzer lotions on this board. Is that what is listed in the ingridents list, "DHA" or are there other things to look for to deterime that it is a DHA Bronzer?

Also, what are your current favorite DHA lotions and why? I was thinking of trying Smoke Black (Supre)becuase I don't want anything that will leave an orange tint...and it was mentioned that this one have a very dark tone to it.

What advice do you have on applying the lotion to avoid streaks and to keep it from coloring the palms of your hands?

A lot of questions, I know, but I am kinda new at this!

Hey Sunshine. Yes, what you're seeing listed in the ingrediants that says DHA is why its called a DHA Bronzer.
How tan are you right now? Do you have a base, medium, dark, or are you at a plateu?
If you have a base/medium tan, I wouldn't reccomend Smoke Black. From what I hear, its a pretty DARK DHA Bronzer, and it could turn you orange.
Do you like tingles? I used Sultry Sexy Tan by Matahari this past weekend, and it has a light tingle/brozner combo. I could really tell it had the bronzer in it - it got me nice and dark, but no orange. Good luck.

**** Yes, Smoke Black is a VERY Dark Bronzer, and you should have a really good tan for it

***** When ya apply, try not to rush, rub in a circular motion, and use a wipe to wipe off your hands, Carry some with you in a ziploc bag if your salon doesn't offer them

***** Not A problem Sunshine, This is why we're here

Thanks ForeverTan...I have a good base tan...actually medium to dark (for me anyway). I'm kind of fair skinned/blue eyed. I'm about as dark as I normally could get outdoors right now. I haven't tried any tingles yet. So I'm open to suggestions as to what to try next. So far I've used:
HempZ Moisterizer-everyday
HempZ Reg-my first 10 sessions
HempZ Hot once-didn't seem any different that the regular HempZ
Chocolate Silk once-seemed sticky compared to the HempZ
Bought Tatoo Hot but haven't tried it yet.

Thanks Tpsyduck! Who makes Sun Tea? I'm not sure that's one my salon carries.
Also...How soon after applying a DHA type lotion do you need to tan. i was thinking if I could apply it at home and then go to the salon (15 mins. away) I could probably get it on more evenly than at the salon. (They only give you 5 mins. to get ready before they turn the bed on...I'm always rushing!!!

Fiji Blends makes Sun Tea

You really want to apply any lotion at the salon, otherwise the lotion could be absorbed by your clothes.

Thanks cupcake65...maybe if I mix it with my HempZ it'll be OK??? I just got a sample foil pkg to try since I don't know if I'll like the hot.

I wouldn't use smoke black unless you have a very dark base tan. I like Sexy Tan or Dark Sexy Tan, Black tea is also a good lighter bronzer. Cafe Bronzer is dark also.

Dihydroxyacetone, DHA, is the ingredient in sunless tanning products. It reacts with proteins in your skin and turns them tan. Most bronzing tanning lotions have a little DHA in them as well as some instant bronzing color or dye.

I would recomend Hoss Sauce Stinger bronzer and/or hot bronzer as well as Hoss' Hemp Ultra Dark Plus bronzer.
We also have a new line called Rebel Sun that has a Bronzer and a Tingle Bronzer.

All work very well.

If your salon carries John Abate, Melon Frappe is a good tingle to start out with (tingle factor 2, plus cooling)

Beach Bum Rum, Black Tea, Sun Tea and Hempz Hydroponic Bronzer are by far my fav DHA lotions. But I dont like to use a bronzer all the time so I use Frosted Hemp, Green Tea and Chocolate Silk too. All of these give awesome color.

I like Dark Sexy Tan by Matahari. Gives great color. The ATO is kinda gross though.

Cal-Tans new Rum on the Rocks is a light DHA Bronzer with a cooling Tingle, it has a pretty nice scent and awesome results. I have a very dark tan and still saw results with the light bronzer. You really should apply the bronzer in the tanning room, just apply the lotion in circular motions and its less likely to streak and using a lighter bronzer would make it less noticible if its not even, just bring some baby wipes to clean the palms of your hands.

I wouls just say makes sure you wipe your hands after applying te lotion, or at least rigt after tanning, to avoid streaks, and exfoliate b 4 you go and use a bronzer, and make sure you get it all even, that is important. Good bronzers do not seem to streak tho. also wait about 3 or 4 hours after using a bronzer to shower.

That is a great lotion, and the scent (AT FIRST) is really good! But I do agree, man this is ONE Gross ATO!!!

I use sexy tan all the time and I always thought I smelled good after tanning. Now I'm all paranoid after using it thinking that everyone around me thinks I stink!

Sexy Tan or Dark Sexy Tan Val? Ive never tried Sexy Tan before. Dark Sexy Tan smells good at first like Forever said but it does stink after! If you mean Sexy Tan then maybe its not that bad!

I tried the Tattoo Hot last night, mixed half/half with HempZ Moisterizer...it didn't seem hot at all and I got some pretty good color from it. I think it might have been OK without mixing it down. I didn't reallly like the smell tho...sort of like grape bubble gum!
