This is probably a common question but I was wondering if someone could help.
I have blonde hair , blue eyes ,pale skin and I have been trying to tan for about 4 months now.
I try to lay out in the sun for 1-2 hours about 3 days a week using copportone dry oil sun tan lotion , but it seems that i am really not getting a tan. I've noticed I got some color because of the comparison from my stomach to my hips ( where my bathing suit covered) and there is some difference.
It seems like my face never tans at all though , It will sometimes get red but it never gets really bad.
I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions? Like would a tanning booth be better? ect ect. Thanks!

well if u are getting results then that's good. tanning outside and going to a bed is a personal issue if u live somewhere warm u can tan outside but u want to be very careful about not burning. NEVER let yourself burn. have u burned while laying out? cus a burn does NOT turn to tan it just damages your skin.

and do you moisturize? moist skin tans better.

No , maybe thats my problem. My skin will sometimes dry up and flake after i tan. What kind of moisturizer should I use for acne-prone skin?

ok for acne prone skin u want to use something that isnt too heavy. (drying and flaking skin isn't good u need MOISTURE) if your skin is dry it stands on an angle instead of laying flat, and when it's not flat it will end up reflecting the uv light off your skin instead of absorbing it
how much do u want to spend? cus my fave moisturizers are ones from tanning salons. swedish beauty's moisturizer with hemp is really great. not too thick but moisturizes very well

I dont mind spending the money , as long as its not wayyyy too expensive.

i don't have acne prone skin so i am not the best person to answer that since i dont break out much. i am sure our members will help out with that. i like cal tan's total immersion as well. and there is emerald bay's radical rain (that is a lighter moisturizer)

does the lotion you use have spf in it? (cus if u tan outside you SHOULD use spf)

for your face use an oil free moisturizer (neutrogena has an oil free facial moisturizer)

ok, I think a tanning bed would be better, because you get controlled amount of UV & time. You could work slowly to the color you want. But if you prefer tanning outside, I would spend the extra money for a good indoor tanning lotion. They have really good stuff in them & will moisturize allot better than the coppertone oil you are using. There are some indoor dry oil sprays & reg. sprays on the market you could look into if you don't like traditional 'lotion' however I find thick lotion to work the best. Are you using an SPF? I would recommend one for you face at least, especially if your burning or turning red! It doesn’t have to be a high # SPF like I use a SPF4, but it depends on how long your out there (among other things.)

As far as acne goes, stay away from mineral oil. There is lots of info here on it, but I feel it traps stuff in my skin, not allowing it to ‘breathe’ and I always break-out badly if I use anything w/ mineral oil in it. Any kind of facial moisturizer is ok, I have the best luck only using stuff ment for the face on my face. Allot of people really like Saving Face by Designer Skin for sensitive/acne prone skin, but I found it on the ‘greasy’ side. I’m very oily, so I don’t use much lotion anyways

If I wear high SPF lotion , will I still get a tan? Or will it block all the UV and such?

Well now we're talking sunSCREAN or SUNBLOCK? I want you to know there is a dif. Screens are most common, they are rated by the SPF#. Even the highest SPF (are they to 45 now?) only blocks so much UV. The SPF basically means it keeps you from burning for such x amount of time. Like if with out any lotion, you normally burn after 1 hour, SPF 4 lets you stay out for 4x that time: 4 hours w/o burning. (I think, is that right? I'm no good at math) I think you could wear a high SPF & get a slight tan, but it would take allot longer.
SunBLOCK is the only lotion/cream that actually blocks all light from getting thru. I'm sure you've seen it, it is the thick white stuff lifegaurds sometimes wear on their noses. You wouldn't want any of that

The main reason for SPF is to keep you from burning. Just don't burn whatever you do. I doesn't take a high SPF if you're not out there for long. Now if you're not just laying out & swimming or something, reapply the SPF every hour or so.

i have used the spray booth yes. it's a self tanner that will only give u the apperance of a tan, if u go into the sun it will offer no protection from being burned (just wanted to point that out since people sometimes assume that it will)

How long on average does the spray booth last for? And is it worth it? I usually dont go out too much in the sun for long periods of times anyways , so the protection benefits arent too important tome.

Yea make sure u moisturize lots to keep your color and get better color Try a tingle, I love em! but a low tingle if u are a beginner, maybe a bronzer would be good.
