I am no expert... but as far as I know.... a tingle causes increased microcirculation which gives the melanocytes (cells that make you tan) more oxygen which should make your skin more tan. The sensitivity to benzyl or methyl nicotinate is entirely dependent upon one's own personal chemistry. Some people (Ree-TanningDiva) never feel tingle while others (moi) are more sensitive to the mild tingles...

one should never start out with a tingle and I don't recommend using one until you have hit a PLATEAU and feel you're not getting any darker.... start slow (Africa, Melon Frappe, etc) and remember that you don't need a tingle to get a great tan.

People who are active in the sun tan darker than people who just lay in the sun because their blood is flowing quicker. The blood brings the melanin to the skin which gives you your tan. A tingle is a substitute to get the blood flowing good because you cant "move" alot in a tanning bed.

You don't have to feel a tingle for it to work.

no u do NOT have to feel a tingle to work. it is STILL bringing oxygen to the skin just cus you don't feel the "burn" doesnt mean it's not doing anything for you.

thanks for the post Chica! I'm still a light tingler. I tend to be more sensitive to them!

Yeah, I'm staying with my Plat Zero T4 as the highest tingle I use, it feels great, and I always get AWESOME color from it!
This thread answers my question about feeling the tingle and the lotion still working, as I don't feel the tingle from Dark Ginger anymore, but I totally love the lotion, so I'm glad to hear I'll still get the benefiets from it, Thanks Ladies

Ive never used a tingle. I find I get good enough color not using one. But maybe one day I will try one out. I dont even know what one I would use but it would have to be very low.

one of them is made from a vitamin and the other is made from a synthetic (from what i remember)

well, nicotinate is made from niacin somehow...so either benzyl or methyl is synthetic? chica/science geek, where are you? or our friend from ultimate....help!

bezyl nicotinate and methyl nicotinate are similar molecules with slightly different structures...this is giving me bad flashbacks to Organic Chemistry in college! they are both niacin derivitaves I believe but I'm sure Andre will correct me if I'm wrong.

You do not always need to use a tingle every single session to get great color. I like to use them only when I've hit a plateau and am not getting any darker. Otherwise I alternate with accelerators and bronzers and get super-dark from that.

You are right njchica.

Tingle products are available in different levels of intensity and provide unsurpassed tanning results. The majority of “Fanatic” tanners use Tingles.

Tingle formulas increase the microcirculation of the outer skin layer (epidermis). The rush of blood through the high concentration of nerve endings in the outer skin layer (epidermis) results in a “tingle” sensation and a warming-reddening effect.
This is important because the epidermis contains “tanning cells” (melanocytes) that produce pigment.

“MOST IMPORTANT”
Due to the increased blood flow and oxygenation to the outer skin layer (epidermis) the activity of the tanning cells increases.

Benzyl Nicotinate – is the ester of Benzyl Alcohol and Nicotinic Acid.
Methyl Nicotinate – is the ester of Methyl Alcohol and Nicotinic Acid.

To create a tingle they both function in a similar manner. The Methyl Nicotinate does have a strong odor. You can smell the Methyl Nicotinate by opening a bottle of Power Shots.

There are other ingredients which cause a tingle, and other ingredients that have a synergistic effect in formulating an effective tingle. Even more important is the delivery system. This information is usually proprietary to the manufacturer.

Hope this helps

ive used two tinglers before and i honestly dont remember what i used. is it poosible, since from this topic im under the impression that theres 2 differnt tingle ingrediance~that i could like one ingrident but not the other? i wanst fond of tingle, but it wasnt bad either. i felt so itchy though after and i didnt like being red. maybe one with a bronzer would get rid of the red for me?

there are two forms of tingle: benzyl nicotinate and methyl nicotinate. i've been told that the methyl version is stronger but they are very similar in origin.
frankly, i don't think tingles are for everyone. i like them but am learning to appreciate a really nice, accelerating moisturizer almost as much.
