O.k. so most of you may know me as the chic that always pushes seaweed for skin care and internal health benefits such as fighting off the flu, dialating blood cells & weightloss.

Thing is I don't think I ever fully explained why this natural little plant is a good remedy for the most common of problems.

Since I am not a good essay writer, I am going to post this article, and also some links to some great products based on seaweed that I have used and still use daily.

Ref: Mermaid Beauty Skin Care
A vital source of life, the sea covers three-quarters of the earth's surface, and contains around sixty different minerals and trace elements. The majority of these are essential to the human body such as Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Iodine, Potassium, Copper, and Iron. Seaweed themselves grow in the most natural way possible. There is no genetic manipulation, fertilizer, or pesticides, just the sea, light, and the tides. Also, seaweed's lack of roots necessitates the absorption of nutritive substances from seawater itself. Because of this, seaweed is noted for being ten times richer in trace elements than land plants. Seaweed captures all the richness from the sea. Seaweed is simply a concentration of seawater and is similar to the human plasma. Therefore, it serves as an ideal medium to deliver all the nutritive benefits from the sea to the skin. The benefits are: rehydrating, rebalancing, remineralizing, nourishing, cell regenerating, detoxifying, purifying, and oxygenating. Seaweed penetrates the skin easily and makes it soft, supple, smooth and firm. A great advantage is that it suits all skin types and leaves you with dramatic results.

Seaweed is also edible, and has long been a dietary staple among the Japanese who recognize the high mineral content from this miracle of the sea. We need minerals to live, stabilize our cells, construct tissues, produce energy, and synthesize hormones. It also regulates thyroid imbalances, activates the metabolism and helps eliminate toxins through the skin. Seaweed can be divided into four groups on the basis of color. Here are a few varieties that are commonly used in skin care preparations:
Green (enteromorpha compressa, spirulina)
Blue (chrithmum)
Brown (fucus, laminara)
Red (ahnfeltia concinna, Hawaiian seaweed, chondrus, lithothammum)
More than 20,000 varieties of seaweed are found in various parts of the world. The main areas of seaweed growth, where one can be assured of non-pollutants are Hawaii, Brazil, and off the coast of Brittany (France).

With this precious gift from nature, we enhance our total health and beauty in a natural manner, from the sea, the source of our origins, which is there to maintain and restore this organic equilibrium as well as reverse the aging process.
Seaweed is truly a treasure from the sea.

Here are some excellent products...tried and true and I recommend them especially if you suffer from acne or dry skin problems.

This site has some of the best facial masks I have ever used.

This is some of the best stuff around. If you can afford it get it!!...it's professional grade and will work wonders on your skin.

This brand is more budget friendly and I use it everyday. I know some of you prefer a shower gel over a bar, and guess what they make one. But, if you like the bars, I think the hard soap is better then the soft because of the fact it doesn't break down as fast so it lasts longer.

Does any regular stores sell seaweed soap? I cant order anything over the Internet since I dont have a CC anymore from filing for bankruptcy. Was just wondering if anywhere like Walmart, Target or Bath and Body Works sell it.

I am sure Wal-Mart has some, but I am not sure what grade it is. I know that health food stores and Asian Food stores would have it. A beauty supply store should have some too.

you guys are funny! (I HATE Sushi)
Honeybee, I was thinking of ordering some mask from Natali Products, but was boggled by the selection. Their prices seem pretty good considering you get ALLOT of mask. You have to mix it w/ water right? I like buying the powder that you mix yourself best. Which would you recommend for someone w/ OILY skin?

Yeah...I would get that facial thermo mask if you have oily skin, and use it once a week, or if you notice your skin becoming sesative, cut it back to once every 2 weeks. You can mix it with water yourself, yes. Also, you may want to look into adding some sandalwood powder to your mask mix. Sandalwood helps to cleanse the skin and your pores while keeping your natural oils in balance. A manufacturer by the name of Chandan makes these powders. They have all sorts to choose from, even from oranges to grapefruit. I'll see if I can find some on-line if you are interested.

Also, this stuff is great for oily skin too, and more user friendly.

There's a face mud, a moisturizer and a toner. I have used this while I was pregnant to help with my out of whack oily skin, and it really helped me a lot.

Sushi sounds so good. I have never tried it though. Is the sushi they sell premade at like Big Y or Shaws good or is it not as good as sushi from a restaurant that just sells sushi.....

CincyFan
11-20-2003, 12:16 AM
I don't know what the Big Y or Shaws is but I'll assume it's a grocery store. Grocery store sushi can be scary and bad, too many of my friends have had bad experiences with it. I have a few grocery stores around me that sell it and only 1 do I trust. But, it will never be as good as the sushi you get at a japanese restaurant

Sorry ya I always assume that Biy Y and Shaws are all over the place when there not. Sorry haha. But ya I have seen sushi there before but was never to sure if I should try it. I think I will just hold out and find a good restaurant that makes it.

What brand did you buy? I am always looking for good deals. I pay about $75 for a 32oz. jug.

I would like to do a seaweed wrap one day. I think it would be totally awesome! Except I have mild claustrophobia and it would make me feel too confined if I felt I couldn't get out. Being in a tanning bed is one thing... my hands are free... I can escape if I need to. But I hear they wrap you up TIGHT in those bad boys!

Seaweed body wraps are nice, they cost about 100 dollars. BUT YOU CAN buy a kit on the internet for about 40-50$ and it is enough for 2-3 applications...THEY WORK TOO, just a well as the salon versions!!
