Green Tea, Swedish Hemp Creme, Helix, Beach Bum Rum. I started out with these 4 after I realized that Sex Pot and Browning Fury werent doing NOTHING for my tan. Stupid people at my tanning place dont know what there talking about they recommended those 2 haha.

I say anything without a tingle, until they get use to tanning, maybe something with a bronzer so they see quick results.

Wait, so SexPot isn't a good lotion? I bought the Swedish Beauty Hemp Creme instead and hoped I had made the right choice...

SEXPOT IS well I cant say the words I wanna use to describe it on here haha. Its horrible. Absolutely nasty. It will stain your clothes, your car, your tub and ANYTHING else you touch. And it streaks when you put it on. No matter how good you try to put it on evenly. It will STREAK.

SB's browning syrup worked great for a beginning lotion for me , and Arctic Fever is a great beginning tingle I think.

Hey LucaBella, lots of people say that SB Browning Syrup streaks on new tanners with fair skin, but my niece was SO WHITE and I gave her some of it to help jump-start her color...and it worked without streaking. The only thing bad was that I forgot to tell her to take wet wipes in with her to wash her hands right away and her palms turned a tiny bit bronze. Now she has a good tan and has moved on since this was in the beginning of summer. Glad to hear it worked as a beginner lotion for someone else.

A lot of those lotions that you guys are reccomending are level 2 or for intermediate to advanced tanners.. for a beginner lotion try Sexy Tan by Matahari or Climax by Cal Tan.

Right On!!
Beginners to tanning (first timers or just first time for the season) should avoid (imho)
Any lotions with Bronzers (cosmetic and DHA bronzers) until the base tan is firmly established.... Bronzers can look like **** on too white a background and can lead to confusion when basing exposure times on the COLOR of that skin.
Any lotions that are TOO advanced. People should not try to force the skins natural ability until they reach tanning platueas.... then you can start talking stimulants There is a reason WHY lotions are considered levels 1-2-3 ... and the nicest thing you can do for your skin and the QUALITY of the tan is to NOT TRY to push it.
In our salon - the John Abate' Tinglefree Action is the #1 beginner (since cal tan stopped making Mesmerize ) and Designer Skin's Drama Queen is also ok for beginners....American Tan has a base lotion that is great for beginners and especially good for those with REALLY dry skin.
I explain to clients that it makes no sense to be 'stingy' with lotion applications.... Lotions do NOT have a long shelf life especially once they are opened... and if they are ready to move on to a higher level lotion - the beginner lotion that is left can be used as a daily moisturizer too.
Again ~ we all do things differently - but for me.... I want my lamps to do the talking and the Lotions to enhance those results

MelaPlus by John Abate (good results but kind of greasy), Accomplice by CalTan, and Zinger by SB for a first tingle.

I like Drama Queen.. I'm not a beginner tanner and I'm using it.. I really like it. I'd also say Ambrosia is a good one too.

Anyone else have any to add? I just used Designer skin's Halo today and it might be a nice Beginner lotion, though it does have DHA in it..... but since it's got a UVB inhibitor in it *spf 4* it helps protecet against the "Burning" rays, so you can tan easier.

Climax by CalTan would be probably my BEST suggestion for a step 1 lotion or else XSpeed. At the salon I work at you get sixty free minutes if you buy Climax and eighty free minutes if you buy XSpeed.

The lotion I'm starting with is Maui Babe. I used it a long time ago and it works great. I use Matahari Lustrous on my face too. I've ordered Accomplice, Climax, and Green Tea as well as some more advanced lotions (I'm already optimistice!) You all have some great suggestions on lotions and I can't wait to try them all. Quick ?? for you all: How will I know when it's time to switch over to the more advanced lotions?

I wish I found this place when I started tanning. I began with AG-Iced Creme. I got good results but it does have a very light bronzing affect.
Now, I really don't like bronzers at all. I just ordered a bottle of Secret Rapture and Helix.... can't wait to try those! Now to find an awesome tingle.......
