NATURAL TANNING LOTIONS
This type of formula does not feature any Bronzing, Tingling or Cooling effects. They feature the most Skin Conditioning ingredients. Most new tanners should start with a Natural tanning lotion for the best Moisturization, Magnification, and Skin Conditioning. The best way to get your darkest tan is to use 1/2 - 3/4 oz of lotion before each tanning session. The Natural tanning lotion will assist your natural tanning process helping to develop your tan naturally. The "stage" is determined by the amount and variety of tanning ingredients.

BRONZER LOTIONS use an ingredient DHA. The goal is to give a tanner the "Immediate Tanning Results" of a sunless tanning ingredient with the heat of the tanning bed before their tan has time to darken naturally. Bronzers should be put on evenly. Wash hands before and after applying lotion. The heat of your hands and dryness absorb a lot of the bronzer and can stain your hands too dark. Washing your hands will avoid this from happening. The heat of the tanning bed helps the bronzers develop a natural looking fast tan.

TINGLING LOTIONS use the ingredient Methyl Nicotinate, to cause a skin irritation as well as a reddening of the skin during the tanning session. Tanners feel like they have tanned outdoors. It stimulates a micro-circulation to increase oxygen supply to the skin. Usually a slight redness occurs allowing you to see and feel "instant results" after your tanning session.

COOLING LOTIONS
Now a new popular effect in lotions, instead of a hot tingle, tanners can have a choice for a relaxing tanning session where the lotion creates a cooling effect along with ingredients to moisturize your skin and develop and maintain your tan.

COMBINATION EFFECT LOTIONS
Combination lotions combine a bronzer with either a Tingle lotion or a Cooling lotion. A Tingling Bronzer is for tanners to see instant redness after tanning combined with immediate tanning results by evening from the Bronzing ingredients. A Cooling Bronzer avoids the overheated feeling of tanning with immediate tanning results that evening from the Bronzing ingredients to help you tan naturally.

AFTER TAN MOISTURIZERS
Often drugstore moisturizers can stop or slow down your tanning results. They are heavy and tend to clog your pores.

Are any of the above particularly seen to be more effective than the rest?

Combinations I think get you the darkest, but not everyone likes the bronzer element. Personally I get my best results with strong tingle only.

My favorite is a tingle and bronzer combination. Cafe Bronzer is awsome!

and lets not forget the cosmetic bronzer. a lotion that claims to be a bronzer but has no DHA. instead the lotion its self is colored brown. It's like make-up for the skin & washes off.

just because a bronzer doesn't contain DHA does not mean that it will wash off. There are many forms of bronzing ingredients, and although they do not last as long as a DHA lotion, they are equally effective at giving immediate color. Just take care not to shower for 4-6 hours after tanning(which is a good idea no matter what kind of lotion you use) and to use a high quality, aloe vera based after tan product to help rehydrate and smooth out your bronzing ingredients! Good luck!

So do you know what ingredients those would be and approximately how long they last?I have wondered this because I used a distributer's lotion once that said it had "overnight bronzers" in it.No DHA in the ingredients but no explanation of what that meant on the bottle, either.

Personally I prefer to use a good accelerator alternating with a strong tingle.

I'm a lover of DHA lotions myself.. but I like a low tingle or hot lotion or accelerator in a rotation too..

This is my first post. I used a bronzer yesterday and now my hands are all stained up. Do you suggest that I get back in the bed this afternoon and try to even things out? How long do you think this will last for?

Cute name MissyPrissy (My names Missie too) I havent had a problem with bronzer staining my hands but alot of people seem to. After you put lotion on use a wetone and wipe them off. It will prevent them from staining.

sorry I'm just seeing this post.... I always wipe my hands with a dry towel after applying a bronzer to my body. It's also important to get the inside of the wrists and in between fingers. if you have access to wet-wipes, those work well also... you can even wipe your hand with one BEFORE applying the lotion and it will help to prevent staining since sunless tanner (the active "bronzer" ingredient) adheres fastest to DRY skin.

staining lasts anywhere between 2 to 4 days... depending up the rate of exfoliation. the more scrubbing and washing you do, the faster it will come off... though you cannot "scrub" stains off in one or 2 session.
