Wow!! Showering after tanning isnt good????? I can hardly stand the way I smell at times after tanning..especially when its hot and humid outside and I get into my car....gawd.....I usually go from the gym to the salon and then home and shower nearly within the hour after getting home. Huh...never heard that its not good to shower after tanning.....just a time frame or what? If so WHY isnt it good???

It is best to let the skin "rest" a bit, but also if you use tingle lotions you do not want to reactivate the heat and you don't want to wash bronzers down the drain. Otherwise, doesn't matter.

tanning lotions contain many ingredients that are good for your skin. I like to leave them and their moisturizing properties on my skin for as long as possible to get the benefit. Also, if you are using DHA bronzers, you need to leave them on your skin for 2-3 hours to allow them to darken your skin after your session.

my general rule of thumb is that I don't tan before going anywhere that I'd feel weird looking slightly flushed, sweaty, smelly, whatever. I'll tan before a game, I'll tan before going food shopping, I'll tan before bed... but that's about it. Sure there are occasions where I tan and then immediately shower.... but I pay a lot of money for my tanning lotions so I like to make sure that they have a chance to do their job.

LOL..sorry but I found parts of this sorta cute and funny.......think its the flushed sweaty smelly and going to bed thing.......sometimes things happen exactly that way.....even without tanning before hand!! Ü Ü

Seriously though..thanks for clearing this up...I just didnt realize there could be benefits to NOT showering..though I did recollect that there was a time when I couldnt get to shower soon after tanning..had to go to my sons ball game and remarkably I did notice that not ONE annoying gnat came within 3 ft of me......Ü

I usually wait about an hour or so just so the lotion can moisturize my skin. I rarely use bronzers, so that isn't an issue with me personally. I TRY to use lotions that do not have an after tan stink so I can stand myself in that period before I shower. LOL

If I am going to go tan in the morning I will usually shower the night before right before I go to bed. Otherwise I'll tna in the morning and then shower at night.

I cant shower after I tan; my skin gets so dry and flaky that I don't think any moisturizer will help; they'll just cover up the problem... so I try to apply the same strategy as CarolinaSizzle, dont tan if I know I'm going somewhere decent.

Do you exfoliate? What kind of tanning lotion are you using?

I wait for a while before I shower. I waited 5 hours tonight but I showered before I went clubbing tonight.

sometimes i exfoliate; i try to do it about once a week. i used Butter for the first time on Friday, but I used to use SunBru's Indulgence.. i just used to have dry skin from washing my hands a lot, and i've learned that most moisturizers just cover the problem up...

if u use a moisturizer WITHOUT mineral oil in it your skin won't be dry. most moisturizers sold in stores are mineral oil based so u are actually drying your skin out by using them, so the more u put them on the more your skin gets dry

Just to prove it to yourself, next time use a mineral oil based moisturizer on one arm and a good salon-sold moisturizer on the other. See the difference for yourself in how your skin feels and how long it lasts that day. Remember NOT to towel dry after your shower. The moisturizer needs to pull that water back in.

Mineral oil is a by-product of crude oil and is more expensive to dispose of than to pour it in a bottle and sell to the unsuspecting customer. Can you believe we put this on our precious little babies?

the only reason not to shower after tanning are if you enjoy walking around with that rank smell, or if you used a tingle, or a bronzer.

I never have showered after tanning. I prefer to put moisturizing lotion on at night before I go to bed and shower in the morning then lotion up again! I typically tan in the late afternoon or evening anyways, usually after work or if I am not working that day!

I tan at night or late afternoon, and shower the next morning. If I have to go anywhere after I tan, it's usually WalMart. And there's always someone there who looks worse than me and stinks more.

I tan first thing in the morning and then don't shower until I'm getting ready for bed. and that's usually 4pm. (I work third shift)
