but with Beef Jerky, it's full of salt, isn't it? That's a total water retainer, I could be wrong though...

I did not think of that Tpsy, but do you have to watch salt content when doing Low-carb diet?

Well, I'm not sure about the low carb thing, but Salt helps you retain water, and that is extra weight, granted, not much, but on a Diet, every LB counts, Right? so I stay away from salt pretty much completely just for the Water-Weight thing, and I can tell a difference from eating and not eating high salt or sodium stuff

Most low carb diets focus on cutting carbs & sugar, forcing your body to burn fat instead. I am not sure how the salt aspect weighs in. As long as you don't over indulge all day long, I am sure it'd be fine

You can also make sandwiches using lettuce on the outside instead of bread. Those are really filling and you don't feel like you are missing out on a full meal.

I'm a low carber, and some of the things I carry when on the road and whatnot are: mozzarella sticks, sunflower seeds, smoked almonds, turkey jerky, protein bars (make sure they're are LOW CARB!)
I drink lots of water and unsweetened iced tea (or tea sweetened with Splenda if I want it sweet).
Those little cans of vienna sausages are great to throw into a backpack for a quick on the go lunch, too.
Don't forget that you can also carry in a ziploc baggie 1/2 cup of raw broccoli or cauliflower for munching and even a little cup of ranch dressing to dip it in.

All of these foods are low carb.

Ya see I have never kept track of my carb intake. I keep track of fat and cholesteral. Are carbs really THAT bad for you? I know salt isnt good for you either and I loveeee it and put it on everything haha. See even if carbs are REALLY bad for ya im not willing to change around my diet plan and watch carbs now since I have lost 45+lbs since late april.

Those sugar-free Jello snack packs are great with Cool Whip! Try the strawberry Cool Whip frozen & eat it like ice cream, yum. The best ice cream is Slender (made by Pierre's.) I snack on sandwich pepperoni and cheese all the time. I love pickles and you can eat all you want becuase there's no carbs. Celery with cream cheese is another good snack.

I was so happy when I checked the pickles in my fridge the other day and saw 0 carbs, I would have been crushed I eat about 3-5 of those guys a day...Is the Strawberry Cool Whip sugar-free, is it by the rest of the cool-whip in the frig section right or is that frozen, hmmm...
Thanks everyone for all the great ideas

How many carbs a day is considered to be affective for weight loss? I've always just counted fat and calories so I was curious about this carb thing.

Watch your salt intake,,,, it causes water retention and is bad for your bp...

Personally, I buy alot of the low-carb snack bars. My favorite, besides the Atkins bars, is CarbWise. I also like the low-carb chocolate bars. Hersheys has zero-sugar chocolate now too. I also eat alot of beef jerky, pepperoni sticks, etc. I recently baked a no-sugar cheese cake. It was awsome. I have lost over 45 pounds dieting this way.

Personally, I believe the secret to eliminating hunger in a low-carb diet is to get the body familar with ketosis. This is the state inwhich your body is burning fat for energy. This is why the Atkins diet has an "induction" phase (just like building a base tan). Yes, it's true that Atkins is lower in calories (the propaganda says this is why it works); but while the calorie count is reduced, you do not feel hungry because the body is in ketosis, it is burning fat instead of waiting for you to put more carbs into it for energy. The body stores energy in a number of ways. First is glucose in the blood; this serves immediate energy needs. Second is glycogen in muscles; this is not fat in the muscles, but another form of glucose. Third, the liver stores glocogen; this is where your body gets energy overnight. Finally, if the other stores are full, your body will produce fat. You never completely eliminate the first three sources, but when those are reduced enough, the body will start breaking down fat into it's component lipids and all the way down to a form of glucose that cells can use for energy. A by product of this process is ketones, thus the name ketosis (not to be confused with keto-acidosis).

I stay between 20 and 25 still. But after induction, some people slowly move up to 50 or 60 carbs a day.
