I don't know about anyone else but i really don't like the spray tanners. Maybe its just me but i would rather take the time to tan in a bed than have a fake orange coating for about 4-5 days...

I like them, but prefer the beds. I rarely do a spray on tan, but once in a while I will.

I don't think they give you an orange glow. unless you're a dark skinned type 4-whatevers the highest you go, you can look at anyones tan and call it "orange". If you're a red head and get the darkest mystic available, then yeah your gunna look like an orange....

I haven't tried the spary on tans yet, but I do plan to try one sometime soon. I'm curious to see for myself how good they work.

I like the spray on tan. The higher the level of spray, (the darkest) the more orange you will look. Do a lower level more often till you get the color you want, then maintain it weekly.

I just read in a very popular tanning industry that the FDA is looking at banning some spray tan booths because the solution is entering the lungs which can be deadly!

Dark Sexy Tan.....wrong, wrong, wrong. Post the trade mag, page and paragraph where you read that. The FDA says DHA is safe for all external applications and IF anyone is concerned about inhilation or ingestion there are protective measures you can take. One is hold your breath and shut your mouth and eyes. The FDA has NEVER said DHA could be deadly. They actually say that since DHA has not been specifically tested for internal ingestions, that protective measure should be taken to avoid contact with mucous membranes. Again....hold your breath and shut your mouth and eyes.

I don't like the way the spray on tan looks on me, however it looks very nice on other people. I guess it's just skin color~ I personally like to go tanning, it makes me feel good

I would much rather lay in a tanning bed than spray on lotion that usually turns orange anyway.

Back in the days when my skin was translucent I used spray-on tan (Mystic in particular) for special occasions. Looking at the difference in skin color now that I use the beds and comparing it to the pictures of what I got in the spray-on, there really isn't too much of a difference. My skin tone from tanning definitely looks better, but the spray-on doesn't look orange or unnatural. So, yeah, I liked it as an alternative to tanning.

I really liked the mystic tan when I tried it once, it didn't look orangy at all, it looked so natural. The only shame about these spray-on tans is that they don't last long... I wish they lasted for at least a couple of weeks! Too expensive to maintain otherwise. And that's why I like tanning in the booth, it's real and it lasts just a taaad longer.

Not everyone can get in tanning beds. My choices are sunless are ghostly white. Two Mist-On Tans a week and I have a dark tan. But I really have to be careful, any goof up and my ghostly skin shows through. And no workouts until after I shower. Its work, but I'm getting adicted to having color.

I tried the Mystic once and it was okay but for the price they charge it should last alot longer. Mine only lasted 5 days I think. Maybe with a tan from the beds as well it would last longer. I was a little orange from it but it was nice except for my face peeling. I still prefere the tanning beds though. The Mytic is to expensive for me to keep up 2x a week. I would if I had the money. But its like $30 a session.

I've never tried them before but I really don't like the idea of a spray on tan. I like the beds and they help me to relax. I enjoy my time there.

If you go to an airbrush tanning technician who is properly trained, you will NOT turn orange like you can in booths. I have used several different solutions, and I can guarantee you that no one I've sprayed with my current solution has EVER looked the slightest bit orange. Find out what solution the booth is using (it is the same as what airbrush tanners use). That's where the orange comes from. Even the palest people turn brown with what I use, not orange. I'd be out of business if they were turning orange! And airbrush tans can last up to 10 days if you care for them properly. It's a wonderful alternative for people who cannot use tanning beds, but it also works WITH tanning beds. They don't have to be separate. I actually work in a tanning bed salon.

I love the Mystic tan..it looks great on me, doesn't look as orange like sunless lotions. I might as well use the Mystic booth cuz it's $30 a session which I get for free and i'm saving my skin at the same time so it works for me.

It depends... professional applications like St Tropez, Au Courant and Mystic in Salons do look impressive in my opinion, although self-applicated spray tans I find less effective and prefer tanning in booths. I would do the professional ones, but because of their standard, they are far more expensive.

Pasty tan babe I am a skin type 1 I am irish with natural red hair. I was very very ghostly white.
Have you tried tanning bed? I don't tan my face at all, just my body. If you start out at 2 and 3 minutes you won't burn inb a high pressure. I love it now. Mystic tans was too expensive. I had to get it every 4 days due to my workouts and swimming.

Mystic tan is was ok for me because i tan in the beds as well but my poor friend turned orange all over it just looked really weird on here but mine was fine. i guess it just depends on your skin

I have put many light skinned/type 1's in a high pressure bed for the full 24 minute without seeing any of them burn.2-3 minutes in a high pressure is a waste of a session.

I have never had a spray tan. I was too scared to try it. They call it a Mystic Tan here, is that what you know it as? I thought I would turn orange, so I turned down the offer. I like tanning, but I do worry about the skin aging I'll have later in life.

I personally like love the MagicTan. They have really great products and now they have a new aerosol for home use. It's great for my face and neck because you don't need to rub it in -- just spray on. Those of you who want to extend your spray on tan should try the MagicTan Extend -- it really works.

I too love the MagicTan. I'm so thankful for this machine and the wonderful revenue it has brought to my business. We have a full service salon and this was the final touch in making it a "full" service salon. The hand held are just too iffy since you don't know if the attendant had a bad night or is having a bad day, or if they'll even show up when needed. I'd recommend this booth to anyone.

I love mystic tan. I have always got great color from it after just 1 session. it's not at all orange. I also like that it takes a lot less time than applying a self-tanner. I just HATE that it costs so much! It costs about 20-25 bucks when u can get 3 or 4 applications out of a $10 bottle of self-tanner. Maybe mystic tan will cost less one day (a girl can dream).
I havent tried it yet...but after reading some of the posts on it... i'm thinking i probably wont. See how much y'all effect my life? lol i swear! this site makes most of my beauty decissions

I tried mystic tan twice...the first time it looked AWESOME! I got so many compliments on my tan and people kept asking if I'd been outside a lot. I went again the next week and I don't know what happened but it was a total disaster! I was still in high school where we all wore uniforms, so I got to walk around with my orangey legs all exposed and my hands were freakish, I kept tucking them into my sweatshirt anytime I could (and it was hot outside haha)

I disagree, I have many clients who are ghostly pale and get excellent results with the Mystic. I think it looks good on all skin types.

I worked with a girl who got the spray on tan in a booth and I did not like it at all. It was blotchy and uneven and not natural at all. She was very fair and it got somewhat better after a few times, but the results were just not that great.

I like the Mystic. I used to tan every other day, but now I've cut back to once or twice a week, just enough to maintain my natural color and I use the Mystic every 6 days or so.
I'm fair skinned and I have a hard time getting great color from beds. I have a base tan, but Mystic definitely helps darken and fill out my color and I have never had bad results.

I think it depends on your financial situation & what they cost.Personally,I think $25 each is too much. But I will pay up to $15.for one,on special. It's worth it to me to be tan for a week to ten days if I don't have the time to develop a tan.I gots to have color!!

As for DHA being safe or not.. It's been around since the 60s, and FDA approved since then.. but you have to think that if someone was going to die from DHA, they would have died already.

Not really, spray on is ok but I would rather get a real tan. Now if I could not tan for some reason I would diffent use a spray on tan, Got to have color!
sunlvnbabe
05-05-2004, 12:55 PM
Most people that use the mystic here are extremely fair and have a very hard time achieving color from the beds. They enjoy the fact that it only takes them 5 minutes in and out the door. And it last for a week, so they only need to come once a week or so instead of every other day. As far as price goes, the solution we buy is very expensive as is the booth, that is why the cost of a session ranges from 25-30 dollars. But most salons offer package deals, our packages range anywhere from 3 for $64.95 all the way up to 30 for $300.00
Most people buy packages as it is cheaper for them in the long run.

I came close to trying one and than I chickened out, I know that I wouldn't rub-off correctly and I would be all streaky. I have seen some people come out looking really good and others looking horrible. It's something that definately takes some practice to get it right. I know with sunless tanners if you are already really dark they will turn you orange....been there, done that so now I'm just paranoid about trying the Mystic.
