schools these days are so petty...why can't they just focus on teaching and let us be ourselves? I know that my friend's high school is so petty about the things that they wear...they have to wear shirts with collars that go no father than 5 inches from their chin (which really is nothing once you have to measure all your clothes!) If it helps i'm sorry you got in trouble for such a stupid reason.

i mean i could understand if your boob was hangin' out or somethin'...but a few words on a cute shirt is really harmless and it kinda seems like they are just throwin' their weight around...

I know a lot of the schools have started really getting strict on the dress code - there was a school on the news the other night where a girl was suspended because her blouse wasn't tucked into her skirt - There wasn't even any skin showing, she was dresseed very conservative but their school dress code is for all tops to be totally tucked in at all times! Ridiculous! I do think dress codes have to be followed or you would have a lot of inappropriate clothes worn to school, but as long as you're covered up and the writing on the clothes isn't vulgar they should be more concerned with the violence in the schools !

Yeah, the dress code doesn't seem too enforced hear, though I wish it were sometimes, but they'll sure jump on ya for anything with a Confederate Flag on it, which I totally don't agree with But, Schools have gotten alot stricter from when I was in school, but then again, we're talkin almost 13 years ago

Take it to court! There was a story in the news here in Michigan where a kid in a Dearborn High School was suspended for wearing a t-shirt that had George W.'s picture on it witht he words International Terrorist above and below it. He got thrown out and went to court which ruled the 1st amendment applied and he had to be taken back at once and the disciplinary action removed from his record. If you want to get somewhere, nothing will get the attention of a school administrator faster than a lawyer with paperwork!

It may have not been fair to you but.. what can you do? When I was in high school we couldn't even wear tank tops. You gotta give and take and not give soo much flack to the school admins. You aren't spending your whole life in school so don't get soo upset.

I would consider contacting a lawyer, that's ridiculous. At my old high school, our dress code was very strict also. But not that bad..

I don't think the shirt is revealing or vulgar at all..

I really don't see what's wrong with that shirt! I didn't read anything into it, though a suggestion that you tan nude may be there, so what!!! I would definitely contact an attorney or go straight to the school board and fight the principal's decision. Dress codes do have a function, but enforcement has to be realistic. i would rather see the gang colors getting weeded out than a shirt about tanning for pete's sake. When you apply to colleges, they might want to look at your entire record, not just transcripts, and this will be there all the time unless you fight it. It's just me, but if a kid can get away with referring to the President of the United States as an "International Terrorist" than "no tan lines beyond this point" is a suitable no harm, no foul deal.

In middle school, we weren't allowed to show our shoulders...I thought it was retarded...and it is, but it did keep girls from wearing next to nothing.

I agree, school's are getting way too ridiculous with everything. I graduated in 1995 and the biggest dress code issue was short skirts, but that wasn't really inforced. Now since parents have been sueing other parents it's gotten stupid. My 15 yr. old cousin got suspended and taken to court because he poked a girl in the side with his pencil eraser, jokingly. She didn't care, but the teacher made a big deal about it and called it sexual harrassment. He could have been in big trouble, but he got probation and has to go to counseling every week. That's just retarded, boys (and girls for that matter) always flirted and joked around when I was in school.

Wow I cant believe they had a problem with your shirt. Its not like your showing cleavage or its a midriff or anything. I think they need to stop wasting thier time on issues like this and focus more on the kids who get bullied in school. They never seem to do anything about stuff like that.

You are TOO CUTE in that shirt...it is not offensive, or sexualy suggestive...your school officials were just having a bad day, felt like ruining someone elses day, so they decided to make an example out of you, so all of the other kids would be afraid to wear anything but long sleeves and turtle necks. If I was your mom, I would be pretty peeed myself! Your shirt was cute, not offensive. I want one.

Look on the bright side, you have a couple of days off, and you don't even have to have a doctor's excuse!

No if you were showing off your lack of tan lines, then yes they have smething to complain about. its like when cops arrest pople who are drunk but walking home and ignore the drunk driver who just sped past them, know what i mean?
