So I got my bellybutton pierced almost a year ago, and it seems like it's tighening up a little bit. I just bought a new ring the other day, and noticed that it was a bit harder to get the old one out and the new one in. I slabbed some petroleum jelly on it and it was just fine, but is it normal for a piercing to tighten up like that? I'm terrified of having to get re-pierced, because I really don't have the money for it right now.

I am not sure what you mean by 'tightening'. Is there scar tissue building around it?

are you buying the correct guage for the jewelry?

I'm not sure what you mean either really. I have my navel pierced, and haven't had any problems like that. Maybe you can explain in detail a lil better so we can understand more what you are talking about. :)

I think it might be scar tissue on the inside of it or something. It's just difficult to get the ring in and out. I had the ring that I just took out in there for a good 3 or 4 months, changing it maybe once or twice to put something a little fancier in, and when I was taking it out this past time I noticed that it was a lot harder to get out. Like it was pulling at the skin or something, and the new one was harder to push all the way through, it was just pushing the skin outward, until I put the petroleum jelly on it.

typically most piercings will do this, even your ear lobes will. Once your skin is accustomed to a certain size gage it will always try to close around it (unless you stretch it.) It just has to do with the overall healing time. Certain parts of the body vary, but I am sure your belly button is fine and this is perfectly normal. For example...the nostril takes about 9-12 months to fully heal, even though it looks healed after about 3 months, it is still not done.

If you have jewelry in it, it's only going to get as tight as your jewelry size.
