I want a tattoo on my right calf of Daniel's right footprint (when he was born) and his name above it. I don't have the most muscular calves though..even if I run a lot they just don't get bigger lol! They're little..Would this look stupid?

Even if your muscle grows, your tattoo will fit it. My boyfriend has a half sleeve, and he worked out like crazzzzy after getting them, his muscles grew, and his tattoos look fine :) I think the footprint would look cute.

It wouldn't look stupid at all. A GOOD tattoo artist will work with you on the size so it fits your leg properly. Be prepared they might want you to go a little bigger, might. As a tattoo ages the lines spread, not much, but they do, and they will advise you the best size and shape or refine the lines of the footprint so it doesn't just look like a blob on your leg. Can't wait to see it.
What color would you do it in?

My friend just got a tattoo on his back of his little boy's hand prints. I think it's an awesome idea and it turned out to be a really cool tattoo. If you want to see a picture I can PM it to you. Awesome idea, Delaine!

Personally, I would avoid the idea. I've seen many many tattoos of babies hand/foot prints and 99% of them look terrible. Unless you know of an artist who has successfully done a similar tattoo, I would opt for a different design. I think it's a great idea to get some sort of 'mum' tattoo, just this particular idea sends up a red flag for me.

I think that tattoo is a really cute & sweet idea!

I love the idea and as far as the size of your calf, a good tattoo artist will be able to do it in proportion to your leg.

With all those enthusiastic posts above, I hate to be the voice of reason....
Two weeks ago "I can't afford one..I have 5 dollars in my checking account right now! I'm going to have to see if I can get one for free.. "
Maybe spending money to get a tatoo is not the wise thing to do right now?

I agree. I think it's a "cute" idea, but I think it would look tacky.
Just my opinion.

I'm not getting a tattoo "just to get a tattoo". I want to get it for symbolization of my baby..so it's not like I would "outgrow" it.

That's a relatively large tattoo for a leg.. Keep in mind, if you ever get married, go to formal events etc.. you can never cover that area... Just keep it in mind. Maybe lower back or something would be better..

I saw a girl at the grocery store with that exact tattoo, I thought it was a cool idea, but it was quite large. A friend of mine got a tattoo for her son and got his zodiac sign, a a koy fish with his name. I forget where she got it but it could be covered. It looked REALLY nice. Just another suggestion.

if you are set on the idea i would suggest this. pick a symbol you really like and put his name next too it. like the koi fish idea. that way if you have more children down the road you could just add their names too the symbol as well..

I actually got the idea from my friend..we're not close friends, so would it be bad to get it? I guess I kind of "copied" her idea, but we live about an hour and a half away and only see eachother a few times a year (like three times or so)..What do you guys think?

That's a neat idea. For some reason, I pictured the tattoo of your son's foot...on your foot and I thought, "heck, that'd be awesome." So, if your idea doesn't work out...maybe have it done on your right foot?

* on the top of your foot. Not the bottom. Just a little clarification.
It's a painful area to have done, but still...neat idea.

I would LOVE to do that, but I hate my feet lol! Don't wanna draw anymore attention to them!

I think on the foot would be cute too. I would also keep in mind that tattoo are not cheap and there might be better things to spend you money on.

I say do what makes you happy, although I agree that you should get the tattoo in a place that you can "show it or not".

It's the celtic design for 'mother'..I LOVE IT! It looks like a cool design but yet it would mean something to me. Later down the road I would probably get my kids' names tattooed outlining it. What do you guys think?

I was thinking about where I should get it, and I kind of like the idea of putting it on the outter side of my leg above my ankle.

I think you should wait a bit. Choose your design.. then print several copies of it and stick it all over your house and car. Wait at least a year.. maybe do it on Daniel's 2nd birthday or something. Make sure it is something that you won't get sick of seeing. I like the idea of putting it on your belly.. you could put it right under your belt line so that it's on your abdomen. Wherever you put it... if you put it.. make sure you can cover it... if you insist on getting it.
I started to get a tat years ago. I wanted an anklet with a cross dangling from it. I'm glad I didn't get it. While I wouldn't hate it now, I'm very glad I didn't get it then. It was to symbolize many many things for me.. none of them have I nor will I ever outgrow, but I view tatts differently now than I did then. Everything it was to symbolize is still strong and in my heart. I show it through my life.. not through ink in my skin.
You go through SO MANY changes... who you are a 18 isn't who you are at 19.. 19 is different from 20.. and each year so many things will change so that by the time you are 26 you wont' even recognize yourself as the person you were at 20. You are coming into a stage of life where you change drastically from year to year. I know you are a mommy and that will never change and your pride in that will never change.... and it shouldn't, but your personality...your likes and dislikes... how you view the world and everything in it WILL change.
So.. my suggestion.. take the money you would spend on a tat and spend it on something special and sacred for Daniel. Something you can give him when the time is right to show him that he is the center of your world and that your love is unconditional and undying. You might start a savings account for him.... or go ahead and buy him a gift he can't use until later...
Whatever you do with it...spend it wisely.

I have a friend (a male) who has all of his children's footprints tattooed on him and it looks adorable
It really fits him because he does have a lot of tattoos
I've never seen this on a woman, and I don't know how it would look
The idea of having it on your tummy is neat though!
I actually like the mother symbol you found and think that would be a tattoo that would work on more places on your body
