hi guys, I'm 26 and work the retail business... and HATE it. I'm thinking of going back to college to become a registered massage therapist. Whats your take on going back to school in your late 20's? Do you know anyone who does this as a career? Any feedback would be appreciated. I have no kids, other than a dog and a boyfriend who is supportive. I wouldn't mind an actual 'career' now. lol
I think it's a good and fine idea for anyone at ANY age to go back to school to finish what they started. It has taken me longer than expected at community college, but you see people who are dual enrolled in high school as well as a man in his 90s! NO JOKE, this man actually was a lawyer and stopped practicing law like 30 years ago, but he came back to take more classes, I think that's great.
If your b/f is supportive and you can make the commitment to go back to school, then most definitely go for it!!

If its what you really want to do I say go for it. I spent time in retail and hated it. I finally went back to school at the age of 30.. Id suggest this if you want to go to massage school go.. once you get out start applying at local spa's get a job with a good spa. learn all you can and take as many clients as you can. then on the side start taking a few clients and build from that. once you start haveing enough clients on the side to support yourself then leave the spa and run your own pvt practice full time..

I went back to school at 24. I got my BS at age 26. Now I'm 28 and planning on going back this summer to begin my Masters. My advice is this.... you can spend your life struggling at a job you hate, or you can spend your life doing something you love... whether you struggle or not will have a lot to do with your passion for your job. Especially with massage.... Your clients will know if you hate it or love it. I think you should do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then, move down here and give massages in my salon (that I don't have yet but hopefully soon!!!!) :)

That's exactly what I was going to say... getting my degree was the toughest accomplishment of my life, and I am so glad I had the strength to finish school, because my life is so much better for it. Good luck!

another thing. ask yourself why do you hate retail.. if its due too low pay or really long hours. or a combination of both. id say follow your dream go back too school.. if you hate retail because you don't like dealing with customers then id suggest something other than massage therapy

DO IT!!! You're never too old to better your education. I just started my first semester ever 2 weeks ago at 29. I was a little nervous at first because of my age but there is a wide range of students there, the people in my bio class range from about 18 to 40..maybe even older. I didn't feel even a tiny bit out of place!

It sounds like a GREAT idea to me! I think you should do it. It's great that your bf will be there to support you, too. My bf's best friend is a LMP...and I think he really likes it! It can get fatiguing I'm sure. He only works part time, I think. I think last he told me, he was working 3 days a week. The key is finding a good gig at a busy chiro office...or spa. Somewhere where you don't have to do your marketing all alone, rather you'd have an automatic client base, then of course you can build your own. But anyway! That's my only advice. Good luck!!
