Yay for snow in Atlanta. Most snowfall we have had in almost 3 years! Freaking insane how fast it accumulated. More snow than we measured almost 3 years ago actually. We got hit with a good section of the storm, almost 4 inches blanketing everything which is great for some snow fun. Every 5 minutes I'd look out the window and it'd be like a dump truck of snow fell. Shoveled the snow off the driveway for the morning. Got like 2 mountains by the driveway now of snow too lol. Also we have a field that is at like a 60 degree angle for over a 100 yards, having fun sledding down it and skiing.

it did not snow 4 inches in atlanta.. maybe 3 to 4 up in the north ga mountains

The winter storm that hit Atlanta and north Georgia with snow, sleet and rain Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning has moved through the area for the most part. But already, meteorologists are looking at the potential of another winter storm developing.

The 11Alive Storm Team has its eye on a storm that could develop Friday night and Saturday morning. That weather system could bring another round of a rain/snow mixture to the Atlanta area.

The northeast Georgia Mountains received snowfall of up to 3 inches Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, with the rest of north Georgia getting rain and some sleet.

National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Sena says rough amounts of snowfall overnight are: Lumpkin and White counties, 2.5 to 3 inches, Gilmer County, a half inch to 1.5 inches; Banks County 1.5 inches, and Forsyth County, half an inch to 1 inch.

He says the temperatures in that are slowly creeping upwards with warm air spreading over the state. He says most of the area is seeing temperatures right around the freezing mark.

Sena says rain should end during the day with temperatures continuing to climb to the upper 30s in the northeast Georgia mountains. The rest of north Georgia should see temperatures from the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Parts of suburban Atlanta are continuing to see light rain this morning, but it's not causing major problems.

The airport recorded 0.4 inches of snow Thursday, the National Weather Service said. That broke the previous daily record for Jan. 16, 2007, when the airport recorded a trace of snow, meteorologist Sean Ryan said. The last time the airport saw significant snow was on Jan. 29, 2005, when a half inch of snow fell at Hartsfield-Jackson, he said.

Traffic on Atlanta's roadways was delayed considerably during the Wednesday evening rush hour, and while traffic cleared out later in the evening, heavy traffic is expected for the morning rush hour.

We got about 2 inches here in the Piedmont area of NC. Enough to stomp through and make that cool crunchy noise. I had to take my doggie out at 7AM and I was half asleep so that is about all I got to do. My work was delayed until 10AM and when I finally got my lazy a-- back up, it had started pouring freezing rain. All of the pine trees are seriously drooping with ice, everything on the roads is going to re-freeze since we got a good dose of rain and sleet once the temps got above 32. Lovely. Now, that will make a for an interesting drive tomorrow morning since it is going to get down in the 20's.
