what's your favorite for your skin type?
I have oily dehydrated skin with a tendency to break out from oil-based products. I like Saving Face by Designer Skin. Lots of moisture, hypoallergenic, no fragrance, excellent product! Gives my face great color and great skin care.

I know this is gonna probably sound BAD but I dont use anything cept' what I use as part of my skin care regime ...that being Aveda with an SPF15....I always cover my face when tanning and SOMETIMES will uncover for the last 2-3 minutes. My face still gets some color to it even with covering anyhow and I use a bronzer base powder to even it out with the rest of my body. I have heard that the Saving Face is an excellent lotion for the face though!

I second the Saving Faces although I wish it had a sunless tanner in it. Maybe I should try the Big O-it gets mixed reviews though.

I am using Illuminate on my face and it is definitely working for me. I can definitely see a difference in my face color. I like the consistency and the smell.

Right now I have Illuminate, but I would like to try Saving Faces. Seems a lot of people really like it.

I have some bronzing powder that I got at Walmart that comes in a little compact. It works really well. It was about $10. I also have the bronzing powder made by Body Drench. It works well too, but a little harder to use since it is loose powder. I have a hard time tanning my face so I use the powders to match my face to the rest of me.

i have suddenly sun (made by cal tan) that i put on my face i don't use a colored foundation i have a clear foundation so i put the powder on and it looks great i thought it might make my face look too dark but it blends in perfectly no matter how dark your tan is

The Big O is a sunless spray for the face, not for tanning with. Illuminate has caused reactions with some of my clients, so Saving Face has become the biggest seller with Lustrous right behind it.

i wish my salon sold saving face... i love the illuminate though, i really loved recreate from cal tan's sunlight line too bad they got rid of that

JA Carotene Creme is a great facial products as well.... I just can't use it lately because my skin is just too weird... dry but oily....
the interesting news is that it is missing from my bedroom so I guess one of my roommates decided to use it...

Well I was "blessed" with very oily skin, so I don't use anything on my face. I tan it for like 8 or 10 minutes and cover it up the rest of the time. I still end up with my face darker than the rest of my body sometimes. Then my husbands laughs at me for a few days until it fades.
saving face is a wonderful product, and at at little over 9.00 it's a great buy too. i do not have a problem with breaking out anyway but i like that it's very gentle

My salon has saving faces and I am debating on trying it cuz my face and neck aren't darkening as the rest of my body... Is it good for neck as well?? Should I try it?

I am just scared my face is going to break out, my skin is sensitive.
andrea, definitely try it.

Saving Face is designed for sensitive skin. It's hypoallergenic, won't clog pores, and is all-around a wonderful product.
Andrea, yes you can use it on your neck! The face, neck, and upper chest are all considered "facial" tissue because it is so sensitive and thin. Take good care of it and never use tingles on it.

I have used Saving Face, but I still did not see any color change.... while I was treating my acne scares ( which are mostly gone) yay! I began using Formulated Solutions Derm Renew Self - Tanner... I looovvveee it! I still tan my face everyother session, and the days I don't tan, I apply the self tanner! Its wonderful, my face always looks like I have a "natural glow"

I actually want to stop tanning my face every time I go in (my cheeks stay red for hours afterward because I get flushed easily) so I'm getting Matahari Lustrous. I figure it will help on days that I do tan my face and that the bronzer will help it look the same as the rest of my body regardless.

My favorite as of now is Illuminate by CT...
But I must say, I have never tried another brand of a facial tanning treatment...

About Lustrous...how easy is it to apply? Does it streak? How dark is it? I would like to try it but I have visions of me having a streaky orange face. Eeew. LOL
Anya1976

actually i used it the other day and it didn't streak it doesn't really seem to have much dha in it i just applied it like ido any face lotion.

Yeah, but your face has a nice pretty tan Anya! LOL Mine is pale compared to the rest of me. I just have a really hard time tanning it. I guess I will try it. I will just have to be really careful and make sure to exfoliate before I use it. I have really dry skin and wouldn't want it to be blotchy.

what do u use to moisturize your face?? i only tried the lusterous cus my friend who works at the salon let me use hers. but the lusterous is thicker than illuminate (i think anyway) so that may help with moisturizing your face (and thanks for the prety tan comment) do the beds u use have face tanners?
LavenderFleur

I use this stuff made by St. Ives. Works well. I get eczema rashes on my face sometimes though which causes severe dry spots. Nope. No face tanners in any of the beds. I go to a very small salon which has 5 basic beds and one new stand up unit. Hopefully the Lustrous will work well for me because I really don't like tanning my face at all.

Lustrous has a light DHA bronzer. I've never had a streaking problem with it. I do find, however, that it almost "dries" out my skin... especially any oily spots. If you are looking for moisture, I would try something else instead.

increased bloodflow through the capillaries in your face can cause broken blood vessels and that permanent "red cheeked" look--roseacea (sp?).
I don't enjoy the tingle sensation on my face and I DEFINITELY don't want visible broken capillaries, so I never use tingle on my face or neck.

Humph. I guess I will look into something else then because I certainly don't need anything that will dry my face out even more.

i will stick with john abate facial oil since i think he knows more about skin care than you.
i would like to know your qualifications, thank you.

E-mailed Question...
Dear Christine';
I have noticed bright red patches of blood vessels on my cheeks and they look bad. They started about 8 months ago and seem to be getting worse.
Is this from tanning my face too much?
Donna Hayden
Portland,OR
Dear Donna.........
Lets take a moment and look at this condition....
Couperose Skin
This is a skin condition… it can be temporary or chronic…
You need to be careful with this..OK
Lets not blame tanning the face..but tanning the face and it becoming over heated can aggervate the condition you have...
Couperose skin has redness appearing on the face…sometimes on the chin but mostly around the nose and cheeks. This condition is mainly due to poor elasticity in the capillary wall.
Let’s look at it this way…..too much stimuli like… a wave of heat or a blood rush caused by even just basic blushing… the capillaries will extend helping to make room for the swell of blood that is occurring. When the blood flow leaves…or recedes the capillaries go back to normal size….. follow here?……
If the capillary wall isn’t elastic enough it will expand….but not go back to normal size.. the result then is swollen capillaries that hold blood cells with-in its structure and then the appearance of redness or ruddiness.
Very cold very hot liquids, climates being too hot or too cold, provoke Couperose skin…even eating hot spicy foods can be a culprit.
If you are considering doing micro-dermabrasion treatments or using a strong AHA or Beta on the face you should see a doctor for advice on this…….. even exfoliation can cause damage to the Couperose skin….
A Night Crème that is soothing and has elastin strengtheners can be beneficial but you need to seek the advice of a professional for which product is best for your condition…
With-out seeing you in person and knowing your history it is hard to say what may help your case.
Use products made for very fragile/sensitive skin when cleansing and toning…
Best of luck..and remember we all battle something…..none of us are perfect.
C.

I heard that using a strong tingle on your face can even cause bruising
colorgod
05-07-2003, 08:50 PM
that's just too painful. plus it's not good for you. The JA Facial Oil is a very slight tingle though.
njchica
05-07-2003, 08:56 PM
it is a a tingle factor of 2 when their highest is 4..... It is comparable to Melon Frappe.... too strong for face IMO... and some skin professionals' as well.

Saving Faces is much better than Illuminate. why won't they order it?
Andrea

I quote "The salon owner isn't ordering ANY lotions for awhile" So that means I have to choose from the LOW selection of lotions as well.. I'm waiting or saving faces...Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.

Saving Faces is my favorite. I"ve tried Illuminate last year. It was my first facial tanning product. I didn't care for it. Not only does it come in a very small tube, it made my face red and flushed.

Illuminate doesn't work for my skin lately either... it's very dry and Illuminate makes it itchy.
Andrea

Geez so many bad responses on Illuminate.. I'm just gonna have to wait.. Could I shop around by calling around to other salons just for it?? Or should I order it online?? the guy said the owner said it could be a few weeks or more before they order anymore lotions..
njchica

if your salon refuses to get it for you because they are "waiting to order", then by all means, check out other salons in your area. I'm sure they carry it.

THere is one by SB, I can't remember the name of it, but its for sensitive skin. It works great on my skin because its sensitive. For tanning results, its noticiable, but not dramatic.

I'm afraid to put anything on my face! I tried all of the ones that have been out, and all but one made me break out. The one that didn't dried my skin completely up! Grr. Don't yall think that SHC would make me break out if I'm oily and prone to zits? I really want to use something...
Blondie41280
10-26-2003, 02:00 PM
Nope I dont think Swedish Hemp Creme would make ya break out. I have tried so many lotions on my face that were made just for your face and not. And all of those made me break out, dried my face out or burnt it to a crisp. If you can find a sample of SHC or find it cheap give it a try. I have the weirdest skin here its allergic and sensitive to everything so if SHC didnt irritate my skin im sure it wont irritate yours.
