View Full Version : do you tan year-round?
njchica

I do...
Sure I live near the beach, but I keep my membership all year round so I can tan on cloudy/rainy days and get rid of any tan lines I may have.
are you a year-round tanner or do you take the summer off?

I take the summer off. I occasionally will tan if I don't get to go to the beach on the weekend.

I take Oct-Dec off. I don't want to be tan during those months.

why?

I've only tanned the past 3 or 4 years, and it was only during the summer months. I've usually only done it when i knew i was going back to the midwest to see my sisters and parents.... I have eczema, though, and the tanning helps it so, so much. I think i am going to keep it up because of the benefits it has for that. Since eczema is an uncurable skin condition, and there arent that many lotions that help it it's so great to actually find something that does!

05-17-2003, 12:21 PM
yes i agree there, i have a few eczema spots and as soon as i took up tanning they disappeared...
lilmountaingrrl
05-17-2003, 12:39 PM
Im not sure if it's the actual tanning lights that do it, or the lotions that are used, but boy oh boy does it help! Im glad it's helped you too, nikptbo.

Yes i do tan year round. i personally like being tan and it makes me feel better in the winter when it's cold and snowy.

It's pretty well studied that the lights used in tanning beds help to elevate seretonin in the brain, which when low in levels can cause seasonal depression.... that might be one of the reasons tanning chases away the winter blahs for some people.

I seriously to tan in mid spring..around here thats early/mid March I tan easily and fast so I usually go three times a week to start and by the end of May I only go once or twice a week depending, as we have a pool and also live a very short distance to Myrtle Beach...and spend a lot of time there as well.* only will tan if its been rainy or really cloudy and I cant get outside* I do tan year round but only go through the winter once or twice every two weeks..to keep SOME color!

I usually take a hiatus between January to April. I've been going back recently though so I can get some colour.

I'm not sure if I can stand to tan in the summer....we live where it gets over 100 degrees in the summer.

I tan only in the warmer months. Here in Vancouver I dont live in a climate that could support a tan yearround. The last thing I want is someone asking me if I have been on Vacation in Dec.

i live in chicago it gets cold and snows here and i have a dark tan all year round. i can care less if people know it's from a tanning bed. i tan cus i feel good not what people think is the "right" thing to do

thats a good mindset but vanity isnt typically a great feature in a guy . In a girl you get away with being more appearance conscious. As a guy were supposed to care less. I dont want to be to much of a pretty boy.

I take a break from the end of summer to around march to give my skin a break, plus that's school time and money gets tight around then

Yep, year-round for the past four years. The only real gap was a few months ago when I visited my sick mother in California. Otherwise, it's year-round and also outdoor tanning, weather permitting!

YEH,TANNING YEAR ROUND HAS BECOME A WAY OF LIFE.SOMETHING ABOUT A HALF HOUR NAP AND SOME
VITAMIN D FROM THE TANNING DEFINITELY WORKED FOR ME.TANNING BECAME PART OF MY DAILY LUNCH ROUTINE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.BY STAYING TAN YEAR ROUND,I TEND TO KEEP THE HEAT
WITHIN ME;LIKE THE GREAT PHILOSIPHER SMOKEY ROBINSON ONCE SAID,"I'VE GOT SUNSHINE ON A
CLOUDY DAY...."PERSONALY TANNING MAKES ME FEEL BETTER AND I PERSONALY THINK THAT TANNED
PEOPLE LOOK BETTER,AS WELL AS HEALTHIER THAN THAT OF A PERSON SPORTING THE BASIC WHITE

now that summer is here, will you continue to tan at a salon, or will you just lay outside in the sun?

I will do a little of both. Probably lay out in the sun more though.
sunbunny
06-01-2003, 02:36 AM
I take a break Dec-Jan. Start back in Feb.
And I will still continue to tan at a salon. I don't have time to lay in the sun, plus it's too hot.

I'm with SLPNGQT on this one. Louisiana is very hot and full of flying, crawling and otherwise travelling pests. Can't take the heat or the horseflies! I tried to tan outside a couple of weeks ago-I tolerated about 20 minutes, was drenched in sweat, went inside, called a tanning salon!

I second that!! And I have lived here all my life!!
I do tend to get a little color from outdoor activities in the Summer but I rely on the beds for taking care of any lines!!

As much as I am enjoying my time in the tanning bed (for both the relaxation and the nice color) I may start tanning year-round. I wouldn't stay as dark as I am in the winter, but a little extra color might be nice.
SassyRedTex
06-01-2003, 07:07 PM
I cut down on my time during the winter months so that I am not so dark. I like to have more color than I would if I didn't tan (and that would be NO color) but don't want to look too baked!

Well kinda all year.... usually start up in the fall when my summer tan is fading, then i'll tan on and off thru say february, ( just enuf to have a base tan ) then in like march/april I get back into it "hardcore" LOL.. then tan thru.. usually may, ( but this spring has been bad weather) so... Im still now tanning...,.. I will most likley tan usuing the matrix HP thru the summer when its crappy out or Im not able to lay out...
PanAnna
06-02-2003, 03:25 PM
I'm going to do like Bonnie and alternate days inside and outside tanning. I won't lay out probably more than a half hour or so because of the heat here in FL but just enough to make me feel good.

I tan on and off year round. I get really dark in the summer and in the winter I try to keep a nice base tan. I prefer a nice winter tan that isn't too obvious in the winter.

I think it will be year around this year, if i can afford it . LOL I'm like a few others from Texas , too hot and too many bugs for laying out around here. I get color from out door activities and go to salon to get rid of tanlines.
It hit 99 today with a heat index of 110 can bearly breath in that much less lay out and tan.

$600?!?! are you serious?? for what kind of beds? i paid $200 for my year long, unlimted package for base bed. i can upgrade to ruva for $1.50 and ultra for $3. wow...$600...where do you live?
josie3s
07-15-2003, 05:14 PM
Yep, I plan to tan year round. Also bought the one year unlimited package, 6 free upgrades, not sure how much they are after that. I think I'll go less often in the winter, just keep a little color, then start up going more often again in the spring/summer. I'd love to tan outside, but I just really don't have time. By the time I can tan, it's after the kids are in bed, and well, the sun is just about down by then. But the tanning salon is still open! LOL

Austin; it sounds like a lot, but all I use are the upgrade beds and booths plus I get a 25 % discount on lotions. It's actually a great deal when you tan as much as I do!

I only tan in the warmer months, like May, June, July, and August. Too concerned about aging to do it year round. Personally, for me, it takes too long to get dark in a bed, and I have to go too much to keep it. Honestly, I get twice as dark outside as my tb friends, but that's just me. I also don;t care for the heat and smell in the salon.

Maybe my deal isn't so great...actually, it's a really nice salon and the beds are awesome and they treat me great. I know that to put together the kind of package I have on a normal basis would work out to over $1000 per year because of the per minute cost of the upgrade beds and booths, so I figure I'm doing OK!

I think my face is a bit darker than it should be, but the rest of me is an awesome color, I would hate to go back to pale. I might just have to keep this up. Besides, the "sunlight" in the dead of winter might relieve some of those winter blues.

I really really want to continue tanning, but it makes me breakout! Definitely not what I expected would happen, but it does - and I'd rather have a clear face then be tan. So hopefully things will clear up and than I can start up again. Bummer

When I lived up north I tanned at a salon all year round starting last year. I would always get severely depressed in the winter, and the tanning gave me a boost of positive energy. I think I will still tan indoors this summer, just not as much since I live near the beach.

Only my 2nd year to tan. I have just tanned the months that you would get a tan outside in Nebraska. I was surprised how long you stay dark after you stop for the winter. I just bought a 6 month package for 89.00. The year was $120. Sounds pretty good, from what I'm hearing.
