View Full Version : owners influencing us?

what do you think about this? this is a post from a salon owner... he was talking about this site--a site dedicated to the tanners.

Quote:I personally like the idea of the website rounding up all the tanners and putting them in one confined space, away from the salon owners. We should not have to co-mingle with the likes of the retail tanner.
Give it some time, make them feel comfortable in their surroundings, then we will slowly infiltrate the site under pseudonyms and begin mind control. We will tell them what to buy and how much they should be spending. They are already not allowed to speak of online lotion sites, and they abide. They are dumb, they will fall for it.

what do you think of this? what if it was YOUR salon owner who posted that stuff?

That owner is stupid and I feel sorry for anyone who uses that salon. Was this from the Tantalk forum?

I think that's just horrible. No body needs to be belittled like the way he was putting down the "retail tanner" (as he puts it.) The only reason he is in business is because "retail tanners" give him their business. He is providing a service to them, not vice versa. He needs to remember that customers are very important... the most important aspect of having a business. With no customers he has no business. He should realize that his narrow minded views may lose him customers eventually.

Well, I think chica's verb choice was correct in her first post..."was"...as in past tense cause that person definitely, as a salon owner, would be in my past after making ridiculous statements like those.

There are great salon owners here that offer their advice and knowledge to us but I have been horrified to read some of the things that other salon owners have had to say about the people that pay their bills, the retail tanners.

People's stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Like just because that person happened to get a loan from the bank to start a business, they are somehow now better than other people? The very same people that put food in their mouth and clothes on their back? Then they complain and whine that they get bashed. Moron. Not ALL owners mind you. This one, and ones that have the same views. Someone so snotty deserves any bashing they get. I find this person so incredibly pathetic that they have to demean the people who support their business. Sad, very sad.

it annoys me to no end that someone could actually think like that. if i found out that the owner of the salon i went to posted something like that well he'd have one less person to "control"

njchica

SLPNGQT--well the good news is that we (tanners) have nothing to sell to you so you know that our opinions are unbiased.

I am still disgusted by that guy's post. I wonder if he treats the tanners at his salon the way he'd like to treat us....

Where did you get that post from? I would be interested to know if it is taken out of context, it could have been a joke, or if they were serious. I think if you post a quote like that and then don't let everyone see in what context it was meant you are doing a real disservice to everyone. Let us see where it came from and we can decide on our own. I have never heard of anyone thinking that way or championing that idea.

Rich go look on Bruce's site in the USA forum... the whole thread is there for you to see that I didn't take it out of context nor did I do anyone a disservice.

I read the thread and I am sure that anyone who has been on Bruces sight will agree that there are lots of sarcastic posts there. I am not sure if this falls into that category or not, it may and it may be the owners serious thoughts. I sure hope that they are not serious but without knowing the person or having them say one way or the other we will never know. Lets just hope they are not serious. I could not believe that someone would think that you could change tanners viewpoints by putting them together in one site and then preaching to them. It just does not and could not happen that way.

njchica
05-17-2003, 06:26 PM
Rich, well it's good to see that you don't endorse that sort of philosophy.

Anya1976
05-17-2003, 06:29 PM
well bruce himself really hates this site lol and we know how he endorses slamming of opinions other than his own.

Rich
05-17-2003, 06:35 PM
There is no way that sort of philospy would work. You do try to influence tanning habits with your advertising, such as use our step up beds or buy this package or whatever. However, that said, you would be an idiot to try and round up a pack of say 400 tanning customers from all over the world and waste time trying to influence their habits. What would the point be?

njchica
05-17-2003, 06:37 PM
I don't know maybe you should ask Ron.

colorgod
05-17-2003, 06:39 PM
Believe me, we can spot that sort of deception a mile away! We are a group of very informed tanners who can not and will not be controlled!

i personally think the only influence we should have here is tan safely, use lotion, moisturize, if u tan outside use SPF, and keep skin healthy.

Rich
05-17-2003, 06:52 PM
I agree. As a salon owner I come here to hear what tanners want, to bounce ideas off of you and get your input. I am not trying to influence anything. It is interesting to listen to tanners who talk about this and that lotion, different types of beds, etc. It is like being a fly on the wall and having your very own focus gruop.

u'd think that all salon owners would embrace this site for that. even if u don't agree on which lotions we like and whatnot (cus most of us aren't rich and can't afford the most expensive lol)

well the normal salon owners have embraced this site... and the arrogant freaks stay on that site and complain about the tanners and brag about how incredibly smart they are and how they were the first to do EVERYTHING!

very true but i was speaking generally since it seems over there there was about a 50/50 split saying it was a bad idea. and yes the arrogant one was the first to do it all and didn't he invent the internet too? ok i will be good now lol

well I think that it has proven to be a huge success so far.... maybe he's just upset that this site is so much more active than his. maybe he should PRAY for more pageviews.

It is a very positive environment here. We all work to becoming the most informed tanners we can be. We also agree to disagree on many issues.

it's just such a shame that they would even SUGGEST doing such a thing.

Greta

it is because of things like this that people like me are so skeptical around here, also why I'm in the market for a home tanning bed

njchica
05-19-2003, 08:21 AM
they seem to have dropped the issue for the time being.... I was really interested to see if any other salon owners thought that Ron had a good idea.

I went to that site one time & haven't been back.Too negative & petty for me.That's just my opionion,of course,& we all know about opinions.Although I work at a salon, first & foremost,I am a tanner.I talk to the customers on their level cause that's what I am.I don't sell something because it's more expensive but because I like it.(My boss probably wouldn't want to hear that). You have to believe in something to be able to sell it.No one can really influence anyone without it being allowed. There are products I love that I have seen bashed on here & there are products I hate that you all seem to love.I think we are sophisticated enough tanners we can all accept our differing opinions & won't be influenced. We,the tanners, are united-don't underestimate us.

In the end, the customer dictates whether an owner's philosophy is a good one or not. They stay or they go. They buy or they don't. The quote from above is so typical from "that" website. I haven't dropped in there in months...

I think it's a load of BLOODY RUBBISH!
bwahahahahahahahah :lol
Influence me my @*#
And if my salon owner posted such roostery rubbish, I wouldn't give the owner another penny.
I buy what I like, not what some company dictates to me what to buy. Of course I do listen to advice from people in this forum. But with anything else, I take it with a grain of salt.
Sorry if I'm coming off rather harsh. I have a toothache

that's the thing... we are all on the same team here. If they come, even under new "tanner" names, we will see what they are trying to do.... that might work on uneducated tanners, but 99% of the posters here do not fit into that category!
