Is there anything worse then a tanner who lubes up with baby oil in a tanning bed? We have rules against it, but some people still use it. It's so gross and ruins the acrylic. It takes me atleast 3 cleanings to get it all up too- And it smells so tacky.

be careful sponge, some tanners here get offended as you have seen when you vent from the other side and i am serious. but no, it does suck when they do.

eewww, that just sounds gross Can't you mention something to that tanner about not using baby oil? Enforce your rules? Personally, I used to use the AG tanning oil years ago when I tanned indoors, but now, I just can't use anything but lotion, but that's just me I'm sure those acrylics can get Expensive though, So Good Luck with it
P.S. Valid point Sarah, Sad But Valid!

I don't use baby oil in a tanning bed, but what exactly does it do to the acrylics? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm not sure what it does to the beds myself, but I know it doesn't do too much for me outside! I used to use it when I was younger, and all I got was Slimey....eeeewwww!

It drowns bugs!! At least that's what my mom told me. Yeah, I use it, but only if my skin gets way dry.

spongebob you must be a salon owner, me too , I finallly think i have all my tanners understanding what not to use. we posted a sign and also told how much the acrylics cost. worked wonders. Baby oil will just smear forever and eventually cloud the acrylics and then no one is going to get a tan they should. It takes a lot to clean it off and i would leave the bed soaked with a cleaner for a long time .

i thought i read on here somewhere that it gets into the micro-cracks of the acrylic and then expands with the heat thus making the cracks even bigger. not sure though, i may be wrong. look up baby oil in a search and maybe you will find where i thought i read it.

Yeah, wow, I haven't searched it yet (I will in a second), but that sounds hazardous. Couldn't the acrylic break if that's true? Oh...scary!

yep, i've tanned in a bed with a slight crack in the acrylic..it looked like it was more physical damage than chemical though.

No, baby oil in theory should only make you look darker. It helps keep your skin moisturized, which is what you need while tanning, but it doesn't stimulate melanin or anything.
