Working in a salon I hear people on their phones while tanning speaking up loudly over the humming of the fan and beds... What do people think of this and are there salons that have rules about this? I feel like if i were tanning and heard muffled talking it would pee me off and even make me wonder if maybe someone was talking to me?

I've never heard N E one on the phone at the salon I go to They must have a funny lookin tan after coming out of a bed with a cell phone attached to their ear!!!

I can't believe people do that! I mean, if there's an emergency, I could see it, but just a casual conversation while tanning?? I think that'd be really annoying to listen to, ya know? I mean, especially for the workers, you've already got like, 50 different stations off of the 50 different radios in the rooms (ok, slight stretching of truth here, but however many beds are in yall's salons, use that) going at the same time, sometimes Loud as !#@%, and then, like you really need to hear someone yelling at a phone?!?!
Come on, that'd be just too much, not to mention how their tan would look, half done :=;:

If they want to waste their money and screw up their tan, it's their own decision. For me, when I go to the tanning or to the gym, it is MY time and I don't want ANYBODY bothering me!

I don't answer my phone if I'm in a bed. J74 is right, it's MY time!

people do this at the salon all the time. i know i ranted about cellphones in another thread. cus most cellphone users are RUDE, and they think that just cus they have a cell it gives them the right to be on it constantly.

When my sister was about to have her baby I had the cell in there with me... didn't need to use it but I think thats a good reason ....

When I am tanning I refuse to answer my cell..so when it rings once I turn it off,how could anyone here over the loud music anyway?

It's one thing, totally, if it's an emergency or to answer it and tell em you'll call back, but i just can't imagine a whole conversation being pleasant. AT an old salon i went to there was a woman who was marrried and would come in to tan for 20 mins and call her other lover!! HOw funny is that? Pathetic!!! We put it together from listening to her... terrible use of a tanning bed

LOL. I feel the same way, Anya!! and I would never answer the phone while I was tanning. 20 minutes isn't that long.

speaking of being bothered, once place I used to go, the lady always wanted to ask me questions after I got in the bed! she'd knock on the door & ask when I was coming back or when I was going to buy another package or if I needed lotion...ect...it started creeping me out. plus it was so anoying to shout over the bed, I just started ignoring her. I'm going to drive a little bit out of my way from now on, for some peace & quiet.

i really don't care as long as they don't do it while i am waiting for their name and their are other people waiting for a bed. one girl did it today and i wondered if she was alternating ears at least. sometimes you can't get the other person to shut up for a minute so you can get off either. now the people who sing at the top of their lungs on the other hand, that is just hilariously annoying...they forget that not everyone is wearing headphones.

She'd ask questions while you were tanning!? Ahhhhh- creepy! I have this one ABNOXIOUS guy that calls me at the counter from his bed to inquire on how many more minutes he has! I am like Jeezus!

Also, sometimes my salon is so dead especially in the summer cuz I'm in a college town that sometimes the girl behind the counter is on the phone with a girlfriend etc, I don't mind though if there was no business at my job I would probably do the same thing! She atleast put the phone down to talk to me.

I never understood why so many people get so irritated when someone nearby is on their cell phones, yacking away. It's really no different then if that someone were to have a conversation with a real person in front of him or her instead of a cell phone; then you'd have to hear both people conversing rather than just one person on a cell phone

well if someone told me to get off mine at my salon i'd be peeed because the little girl working the place is always sitting up at the front desk yapping on hers.. and i dont think its bad to talk.. i mean.. its not any louder than the music

OK, let's not generalize here. I kind of understand the point you're trying to make, but please don't stereotype and say all cell users are obnoxious. That's just being ignorant.

hey if its an emergency, it probably wont be when you are done. If someone died, they will still be dead when you are done. At my friends studio when he hears someone on the phone, he tells them that everyone waiting and in the lobby could hear her talking over the noise of the bed. Ususally they don't do it anymore.

Theres this girl that comes into our salon everyday. As soon as she gets into the bed she turns down the radio and starts talking on the phone. It wouldnt bother me if she was quiet but shes sooooo loud and she talks about things that well shouldnt be talked about in public.

Back when I was tanning at Video Warehouse a girl came in the room next to me and got on the cell and the worst part was she was talking about sex. She just kept on and on. Some of the things she was talking about Ive never heard of and I though I knew everything, lol.

I have had clients that will come in and right before they get in the tanning bed their cell will ring and they will stand there forever before they buzz me to turn on the bed. Once i had a girl that was getting in the sun capsule (12 min max!) and she went back there and talked for a half an hour before she got in. Couldn't she tell her buddy she'd call back after about ten minutes?!?! GEEZ!

I take my cell phone in the tanning room with me, but I usually fall asleep or just don't hear the phone ring over the humming, 'cause I always get out and have missed calls. lol. Plus, i'm too lazy to get out, put the bed on pause, and answer even if I did hear it ring. They can leave a message.

i hate it when people whip out the cell phone and think youre supposed to be impressed with it. ive had a cell phone since i was 12.i cant think of anyone that DOESNT have a cell phone. MY DAD HAS A CELL PHONE!! my dads the last person on earth to buy ANYTHING. my motto is "if my dad has it im not impressed" oi|! OR WHEN they talk SO loud you hear them a mile away. grrr

There's no signal on my phone in the salon, so its never been an issue - I would never be chatting while tanning anyway, I would probably just check to see if its an emergency. My tanning time is the only 20 minutes of total peace and quiet I get.

I put my phone in the chair beside the bed. I never know when the school might call me to come get my daughter if she gets sick or hurt. I would hate to miss that call. My hubby will sometimes call me, but I usually let my voice mail answer it and I just call when I get in my car.

I have a lady who walks in with her phone attached to her ear, she just looks at me and points to the bed she wants while carrying on a conversation, then talks as loud as she can while in the room, and walks out with the phone still attached to her ear...every single time. I don't think I have ever seen her without her phone.

I bring mine into the room with me, it's always in my purse. However, the only people that call me are my son's school, and my daughter's daycare. As luck would have it, about two weeks ago, it rang about 1/2 way through my tanning session, so I grabbed it, and answered it. It was the school nurse telling me he had cut his head open. I ended up cutting my session short, and took him to the dr, where he got 4 stitches. So there's a genuine reason for my talking on my cell phone while tanning, it was an emergency. But I'm not one of those people that lays in the bed and talks the entire time. Not all cell phone users are bad, mine serves it's purpose very well, in emergencies only.

Monkeygirl in those type of situations I think it's perfectly alright to answer your phone. I always have my phone in my purse just in case my boyfriend needs to get a hold of me. I never answer it while I'm tanning though. It's real annoying when people come into the salon with cell phone at their ear blocking the sign in area. They are always the ones forgetting which beds they are in and so on. I try not to get too stressed about it.

when its two people having a conversation, they usually dont talk quite so loudly, and if they do, they are just as annoying. Also, when the two people are real there isnt the "can you hear me now?" and when there are two people in person, the other one knows when to shut up so the other one can get in their tanning bed or order their food.

people must not know there is a silent option for the ringer, and an off button for there mouth. I always put my phone on silent. BUT, if it was an emergency I would talk on it, other wise I wouldn't. At my old salon there was a couple of times someone has answered there phone while tanning, but the person said I'll call you back. I guess they don't think whoever is outside the room can hear what they are saying.

pinkflamingo
05-25-2004, 11:44 PM
i always try and turn my phone on silent, mostly because i usually keep it on a really loud ringtone, and i dont wanna bother other tanners. i dont get too many calls while im tanning, though, and even if i do happen to hear it ring, i wouldnt answer it. it would just be too annoying to have to get out of the bed and answer the phone.

I'm pretty bad about this. I talk on my cell all the time in the beds b/c it's a rare occassion i'm note flying around doing something else or dealing with people otherwise. Come to think of it....when im not on my phone i always end up fallin asleep. Ha...maybe i should turn it off!

~*Melissa*~
07-17-2004, 06:26 PM
i also hate those people who talk REAL loud on their cell phones in restaurants. i admit, i talk on it sometimes, but you dont have to scream. The other week while i was in the tanning bed, this lady in the room next to me had one of those nextel phones *two way* so i could hear her ENTIRE convo. I had my fan off, cause the bed wasn't that warm, so I could hear her loud and clear...it was so anoying. Finally i started banging on the wall and told her if she wouldn't shut up, i would come in there and take her phone. After that, she was quite. Some people really tick me off lol

cass489
07-17-2004, 06:35 PM
That is so rude! I hate when people are on their cell phones and start talking really loud! I want to scream shut up or go outside! It is just disrespectful of the people around you. I know we have all probably done it once but at least we know how annoying it is so we can get off the phone ASAP! My fiance's mom does this all the time! She has her phone permanetly attached to her ear and she talks on it with A LOUD VOICE like the other person is deaf! It makes me so mad! And me and everyone else in the family always tell her but she continues to do it! OH! And I HATE Nextel Two-Way phones. Sorry, you are not that important that I need to hear your entire conversation with someone else! I have even been in resturants (fast food or otherwise) trying to order when someone comes in with that phone and keep yapping away! I always give them dirty looks and if they don't get the point I tell them!

Scott
08-05-2004, 12:04 AM
Unfortunately, i usually tan on my lunch break, and as the official trouble shooter where I work, I HAVE to answer my Nextel calls, I know its rude, especially with annoying chirping, but the salon has never said anything, and I talk as quietely as possible. There usually is loud music booming through the salon so I think I am muffled out.

stuff like that just doesn't really bother me--unless it's in a movie or something--i really don't see what the big deal is, and i'm not saying that as an excuse to use mine-i've been going to a tanning salon for over 6 years and have used mine i think twice.

i never talk on my cellphone, but i have forgotten to put it on silence a few times, so i busted out with "LOVE SONG" by 311 when my friend called, it was soooooo loud, and my phone was on the other side of the room, and i didnt want to get out of the bed. Another time i left it on vibrate and accidently left in on the bed near my feet and it went off and was making the loudest vibrating noise i have ever heard due to the acryilic! and once again, i was too lazy to lift the canopy to get it... my sunsets would have fallen off! haha!

I never answer my phone once I'm tanning, I usually put it to silent anyway.I'll never use it while tanning, my tan has to be purrrfect. No matter how short the conversation! I don't think people should be talking as in normal conversations during tanning in their booths, surely it disturbs other tanners?
