The other day I took a shower a few hours before tanning and put on Vaseline Intensive Care fragrance free lotion instead of my Total Immersion and I didn't feel like I got anything when I tanned. Could there have been something in the Vaseline lotion that may have blocked the tanning capabilities a little bit?

some lotions not made for tanning have an spf and will stop you from getting tan. That is why it is always important to use a tanning moisturizer

Basic Moisturizers are not the same as After Exposure Tanning Products:
Tanners need to understand that often skin moisturizers bought from retail stores and major cosmetic companies contain ingredients that stop you from tanning. These non-tanning moisturizers ingredients may include:
1) Natural and chemical sun blocks that will block your bodies UV light absorption during your tanning session.
2) Skin bleachers and skin exfoliants designed to increase skin shedding and whitening and to minimize wrinkles and blemishes.
3) Most all non-tanning moisturizers do not contain tyrosine and other ingredients designed to help your body tan faster.

Many moisturizers also have mineral oil in them...

I checked for the mineral oil before posting thinking that that could have been the reason, but it didn't contain any. And doesn't say anything about a sunscreen unless it is in there and not mentioned.

Hum! To be safe stick to the tanning specific moisturizers.
