The owner of the salon I work at is a man.We only work 1 person to a shift(Can get very hectic,I must say) year round.I've heard some controversy about men working at salons & I thought I would get you expert tanners' opinions.Would you find it uncomfortable to tan if you were the only customer, say during the slow season,& it was a man behind the counter working?

No, I think it sucks the amount of men NOT working in salons. As a guy I find it a lot easier to talk about questions I have about tanning to other guys, plus the girls at the tanning salon I go to think it's funny when guys tan, even though there's a large number of us.

I know i"m not a female. One of the owners at our salon is man, and sometimes he is the only attendant there. I know many of the female customers and they've never expressed any concerns. Most of the doors have locks on them anyways.

no, it doesnt bother me at all. now if the guy was creepy maybe since he would have access to the keys to the rooms... but every guy that has worked there has been very nice

I have been through 2 owners at the salon I work at.The last one was female. When the current owner was in the process of buying the place & we would tell people the new owner was going to be a man, some of the customers were saying they wouldn't be comfortable.I've noticed alot of the old customers aren't around(we do have new ones). We have more men tanning now than we used to,though.

I would report that to the owner. You are spending your precious money to tan there. The workers should be professional enough to withold their own narrow-minded view.

There are 2 men at my salon. The owner and his son. It doesn't bother me in the least that they are there.

I actually like the female owner of my salon more. She's more talkative, but the male is great too.

That is bizarre.... I don't think it would ever cross my mind to be intimidated or afraid of a male employee... I love tanning at SHORE's salon because he is so friendly and makes everyone so comfortable.

It really wouldn't make a difference to me. As long as they're helpful I don't care what gender they are.

I was never concerned about men working in the salon.

Well, obviously guys tan too (as we can see here on this site, although I think in smaller numbers), so why shouldn't they work in salons?

nah, it doesn't bother me because my SO's hubby works sometimes, and since I'm usually in first thing in the morning, sometimes he and I are the only one's at the salon, and I'm not uncomfy at all. He's really nice and friendly, but doesn't overstep any boundries from SO to Customer at all.. a real great guy
I'm sure that'd have alot of bearing on it, what type of guy is working, not neccessarily it being a guy, ya know?

my salon owner is a man and when he isn't working his brother is in charge. it doesn't bother me at all and i've been there plenty of times being the only customer there.

It doesn't bother me at all. I tan at few places where only a male employee is working and I feel just as safe as I do when a female employee is working.

I'm a guy, and I don't feel awkward when I'm the only one at the salon and a girl is working. I know the majority of tanners are female, but as long as you're comfortable with it, I see no problems with there only being one worker at a time, regardless of sex.

As long as he is proffessional and never crossed the line then it wouldn't bother me much!

Most of the guys at my salon are ***, so it doesn't bother me at all. But the few times that I've gone and there's a semi-creepy guy that hits on me, yeah I do feel a little uncomfortable. As long as I'm treated with respect, it's fine.

it wouldnt bother me, but this one time a few years ago, when a new salon opened up I noticed a guy was working there, he was creepy. i dont know why...maybe its because he tried to touch my hand when i gave him back the credit card slip. ahh!!!

this type of sex- profiling has to stop. if they are professional guys, then whats the problem. sheeesh, its kinda like when a dad wants to start a daycare because he wants to spend time with his kid, because his work laid him off, and make some money and the mothers in the neighborhood have a problem with it.
They should make a movie about that and show women that guys are capable.

what difference does it make as long as it's a professionally run place?
I wouldn't mind. Theres a guy at my salon but he seems like a good guy.

I once applied ot work at a salon and the owner said she did not want to hire a man because the last man that worked for her was peeking (she didnt explain how) at the women when they were tanning.
The salon i go to now has men working there... but its a very "grown up" atmosphere... not over decorated, no attitudes, its all about tanning. i love that.

it wouldn't bother me at all. as long as they are friendly then I don't care. some female employee's seem to think that they are better than everybody else and somewhat rude.
