View Full Version : Sunless Tanning, FDA and down the road...

Guys, the sunless tanning industry is kicking butt. It's obvious, it takes less time and less wear and tear on the skin. It certainly doesn't hurt to incorporate it in with a little UV tanning either. It's actually an added benefit to those who like UV-tanning everyday to now do it a little less often.

If you think about it, you see people everyday tanning in the sun or in the sun beds and sure they look great during the warmer months since their skin is moist from the heat ... but did ya ever take a look at their skin in the colder months? The skin just doesn't look quite the same. I prefer sunless tanning hands down. It's already been reported the UV industry is freaking out over all the attention the UV free industry is recieving; therefore, they are nitpicking with the FDA and all that fun stuff to find something, anything wrong with it. It'll work for a little while, but you watch it'll all die down since sunless products have been around for y e a r s!

DHA is derived from a sugar beat, (food) they then add aloe, (a plant) water and maybe some additional moisturizers. All the same stuff they put in our food and cosmetics we digest or slather all over our face anyhow. Everything was approved by the FDA prior to all this ... c'mon guys, common sense would tell ya not to keep your eyes open or literally inhale the stuff EVERYDAY for the next 10 or more years. They post warnings all over everything just as an added precaution. I think people are starting to really dig deep when they look at the warnings and begin to freak-out. I just assume stay in the spray booths and thank God, they finally came out with it. And, also know that down the road I won't be looking like a road map from tanning everyday in the sun or sun beds. I go once a week in the spray booth and look like I've been at the beach for days. I also get too many compliments on my tan to think differently. In the colder months,I will admit, I'll do 4-6 minutes in a tanning bed then jump in the booth, it opens your pores and allows the spray to penetrate deeper since the skin is now moist ... as I mentioned earlier.

Sunless tanning is a small process, but in the long run, you'll be big-time thankful you went through that process, I am, and I've been sunless tanning (with everything out there) for 12 years now ... doing the spray booths for the last 6 months. Personally, I like the MagicTan spray booth.

Thanks guys, I hope I shed a little light on the subject.

P.S. I have no idea how to change my "pretty pale" scale to "pretty darn dark" ... any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Some of us choose to use sunless tanners, and some of us choose to use the beds. Let us choose what we want to do, as it IS a free country. We all know which one is 'healthier' for our skin in the long run, but we choose what we want to do.

I didn't see where he was telling us what to do or not letting us choose. He was just stating the pros of sunless and stating that that was his preference.

I know, but I feel the whole anti-UV rap coming on, which I hate because it is a free country.

Everyone should be able to tan how they choose, it was good info nonetheless.

I hate sunelss tanning, i dont care how safe it is. There is another website that is dedicated sunless tanners. I tried the whole sunless tanning stuff, and it takes too much work to maintain it! And no matter which one you use it is still orange, and how terrible it makes your feet and all your joint areas look. I like the beds!!!!

The more you post, the "darker" your scale will become.

being a pretty experienced sunless tanner, i will have to correct you by saying not ALL sunless tanners turn you orange. you first have to find one that is good for you. i have found one, and recieve compliments all the time. i know some do turn you orange but you just have to try a bunch out before you knock them all. like people have said in other posts, not all products work the same on everyone. it depends on many factors. i do like the sunless/TB combo because i feel it gives it a little more natural color to the tan, and for some reason i do not burn at all or get sun rash when i am using sunless, but when im not i do burn and get it.

I talked to the guy at mistawaybooth.com (NOT Mystic Tan...this is for airbrush tanners!!! IT COLLECTS OVERSPRAY)he thinks the mistaway booth will be encouraged by the FDA because it keeps the air clean for both the client and the tech. He might be right this may become an industry standard product that goes right along with your airbrush and compressor. Mine was worth every penny. I can send photo's to any one upon request. Let me know if you have the newer version. I have the first one that they came out with. They said they have a new model that is more like a cool looking capsule. If any one has this model can you pleaser email me a pic. Thanks

yeah it may die down.. which i doubt.. but its our choice, the tanner's choice, to keep tanning. and i will never like self tanning more than tanning beds. yeah, i use it on occasions.. like when i wear skirts/shorts or my arms are looking pale.. but.. i love tanning!! so as long as tanners keep tanning, it cant die down.. ya know..
