I just did my salon and it came out sooooo... good. ( I dont mean to brag lol ) I want to know what you guys think of how it sounds and if you would go to my salon. When you first walk in you walk like 10 yards and there is the counter and a huge selection of lotions on shelves. Then I have a area for the children to play in so they dont mess up my salon. Then I have a waiting area complete with a fireplace and a t.v incase there is a wait. Also I have this policy if all of the beds are taking up you get to tan for free. I have 3 stand-up units. Also I have 2 HP beds and 3 medium pressure beds.

Sounds great, but who is gonna watch the kids while the moms tan? I think you may be asking for trouble there, unless you want to be a babysitter.

Sunbunny it is its own room which has transparent walls and I would like ask the parents to bring there kids favorite toy only 1 and hope it will keep them ocupied.

^^hrmm, that sounds a little shady. I think a room like that should be monitored by (no offense) someone who is not a complete stranger...it sounds like you have good intentions, but I think this may ultimately end up getting you in trouble.

I think it might too. I would definately set an age limit. Cause I guarantee you're gonna end up having to watch a baby or worse, a toddler. It's a great idea, but I don't think it will work.

Not to mention you would want to check into your state laws on what qualifies as a "child care" area and see if you need some kind of permit.. at any rate, just having transparent walls doesn't mean the kids are supervised, and that could, as Spacecadet pointed out, get you into a world of trouble. There is liability and blah, blah, blah... and it's the *blah* part if someone's child disappears on your watch that.... well, you get my point.

well I like the part about getting to tan for free if you have to wait, but is this the same place that lets you tan for 80 minutes?

This is just a wild guess, but I'd say only a very small percentage of tanners bring kids. Setting aside an entire room for kids may not turn out to be a profitable feature when it could be used for a more revenue generating activity like housing another bed.

Well I always have 4 people working so maybe I would make them watch the kids while the parents tan. Also the room isnt big and it doent hurt to have a room because you never know.

I think your salon sounds beautiful! I love you free tan policy, more places should have that. If I was in NY, I would love to try your salon out.

LovemySun doesn't let people tan for 80 minutes. A salon he called to check the competition told him They allowed people to tan for 80 minutes.

I'd tell them to leave the kids at home and use that room for another bed. This is just my opinion, and for the record, I have a 5 yr old and a 9 yr old.

you might have to change that free tan policy in the busy season. you are pretty much guaranteed to go on waits all day and sometimes for the entire night. you would be making no money unless you had like 50 beds so that a wait was virtually impossible. also, i think you are asking for trouble with the child care thing. can't trust kids or adults for that fact. and kids give each other germs and stuff all the time. can you imagine someone bringing your name into the fact that their kid came home with lice/pink-eye/chicken pox...i hate to break it to you but not all tanners are of a decent caliber or clean for that matter. and they would be the ones to take full advantage of your situation. not a whole lot of people bring kids because they know that they have to watch them. keep it that way. might be opening a big nasty can of worms there so nix it and put in another bed if you can. the other waiting area sounds nice. 4 employees might be about right (hopefully not all at the same time.) you'll just have to feel out that part. offer them some kind of incentive. we make commission off of our lotions. if you are a cool boss then you will have loyal employees. our penny-pinching owner sucks a$$ but my manager is cool enough to make up for it.

Thanks for all your remarks I am getting rid of the play area and putting a Mystic Tan there also I am going to get rid of the policy where you tan for free but I'm going to extend my salon again and get some more Hp beds. Thanks for all of your opinions.

Sounds really nice! The only problem you may run into in the future with employees may be the TV. I have walked into plenty salons where the staff is more interested in the Young and the Restless than helping me as a customer. It is really nice for clients, but employees tend to take advantage, especially when its slow and you need ever sale to make ends meet.

I think your salon sounds great like you have it! As a mother, it's nice to have that playroom available, I've got a 9yro, and I've got to bring him during the summer when I tan, and my salon owner loves him Maybe a drink machine and/or snack machine in the lobby would be cool, since I noticed the post about the Snack Bar. Oh, I'm not to sure about the tv thing myself, that could very well cause problems for the customers and you as a solon owner over the employees "Slacking" a little in their jobs just a thought
