Or do you have to keep them on for a while afterwards for them to be effective?

you could but then you'd have to apply a moisturizer anyway.... it's best to leave them and their good ingredients on your skin for as long as possible. if you're using a DHA bronzer, then you should always leave them on for 3-4 hours for maximum oxidation on the skin which causes darker color.

I leave mine on so it will continue to moisturize. Bronzers need to stay on at least 3 hours so they will develop. If you want to, you can wash them off. Is there any particular reason you want to wash them off?

Yeah, cos most of them have a scent which i don't like. I'd rather apply the lotion, then tan, then wash it off and apply a normal moisturizer that's fragrance free or doesn't smell as strong.

I find that the odor is not so bad if after I get out of the tanning bed I spray a dry oil body spray on and then use a lotion before I get dressed. The after tan oder isn't so bad then and I can wait til before bed or in the morning before I bathe. And after I bathe I put oil and lotion on again. This keeps my skin really soft.

I like to leave my lotions on for a little while, so that all the good moisturizing ingredients that I spend so much money on have time to really work.

then you need to find a lotion that has a scent you like. check out Love It or Shove It for lotion discussions.

swedish beauty and australian gold sent us some promotional videos and they said that you should wait 4-6 hours before showering for your lotions to fully do their job.

what kind of oil do you use? I also use carrot tea-tree oil everyday instead of lotion. I know I didn't do the quote box right. it's my first time trying. [ This Message was edited by: camarolynn73 on 2003-07-25 16:51 ]

There are alot of lotions that do have a nice scent try a few samples and find one that you like. If I tan early in the day I always use a scent that I really like but if its later and I'm not going anywhere than I can tolerate any ATO for a couple of hours till I can shower it off - but the lotions are very moisturizing that you really should just leave them on for at least a few hours.

I got a spray on one today that doesn't smell. I gues a spray on one won't be as moisturizing as a lotion, though?

Its ok to take a shower afterwards, unless its a tingle lotion, then I'd wait about an hour. Otherwise you can just take a shower right away, but I'd say you should put on a moisturizer after that. That shouldn't be anything new though, you should always have a moisturizer on.

I leave mine on for about 3 hours...that's what my salon recommends.

I wait for at least 3 hours to wash it off. Most lotions I use are very moisturizing and I can leave them on even longer then that.

I always make sure to not shower after I tan. I wait till the next morning. I know Im a little stinky but after a few hours I will put a moisturizer on and that helps a little. I want to make sure my lotions are doing what they are meant to do so not showering after you tan is the best thing to do!

I try to tan in the mornings and leave my lotion on till I shower in the evening. It's easier for me I suppose since I'm a stay at home mom but sometimes the girls will ask when mom's gonna shower,,lol

I usually tan by about 9am, and don't shower untill about 1:30 in the afternoon, just so my lotions have plenty of time to do their thing.

I typically wait about 4 hours to shower after tanning, unless I have somewhere to go soon after. However, I never EVER shower right after using a tingle. I've done this once before and OH MY does it burn. I don't know if it's the heat of the water or just the water itself, but something reactivates the tingle and it's even more intense. So, I would highly suggest waiting a good while to shower after using a tingle.

I just leave mine on til the next morning shower unless it's made me feel a little too sweaty and I have to go out.
The extra moisture is nothing but good for you.

the best thing to do is leave it on for a few hours let it soak in well, i usually go at night and shower in the morning unless i reek of ato, dont want my sheets smellin like it lol

You must keep on Bronzers for a few hours to let them work, and you must not shower for a few hours after using a tingle either or it will re activate and you will get all hot and red again. It is best to wait for all lotions, but especially those 2 kinds.

I usually leave lotions on for as long as my skin feels moisturized by them.

I tan 3x a week and I go at 2pm. I don't shower until 7 or 8pm. The lotion keeps my skin moist and it helps while your tan develops later.

hmm, maybe i'm losing some of the effectiveness of my lotions... i usually tan by 9AM and then shower and go to work within an hour. not sure i could take it waiting 3-4 hours (or anyone else. LOL) how much do i lose when i do that? i do moisturize after my shower, that must help, right?

I wait about an hour or two if I used regular lotion. If I used tingle or bronzer I wait about 3 or 4 hours. I just slap on some deoderant and perfume and I'm good to go. At least I think I am. No ones ever told me that I stink.

The fresh ease really help with ato, I've been using them after tanning if I have to go somewhere, I always try and wait at least 3 hours after tanning to shower, your paying for all the great ingredients that are good for your skin why wash it away before its had a chance to work.

I almost always leave the lotion on till the next morning because I tan at night anyway--not sure if it is more effective I hope so!

I can't find fresh ease anywhere - do only salons carry them?

One of my friends who's really dark told me that she reapplies her normal tanning lotion again after she's done tanning, and I tried it and it does seem to let you get a little darker I guess because it's replacing all that you rubbed off or sweated off while tanning or toweling off and helps moisturize your skin. You continue to tan for a few hours after you get out of the bed so you should wait at least a couple hours before showering. Usually I tan in the evenings so the smell doesn't bother me as much since I'm usually just going home afterwards.

i never shower after I tan. I always go after work and shower in the morning. It works out for me because the only person that has to smell me is my husband. hehe

Try asking your salon to special order them for you.
