I don't know the owner of my salon but I do know the manager. And I am always glad to see her working. I always try to refer people to the salon.

I know the owners very well, but some of the new help that has been brought in are totally disgusting. Nasty tans, nasty attitudes. I may have to switch

thank goodness none of the girls i see at the salon have that snobby "i work in a tanning salon so i am better than you" attitudes.

I know who she is, she knows my name, where I work, etc.... which is amazing because she has almost 50 beds in the location and tans 1000 people a day during the busy season.
I wouldn't say we're friends or presume to say that I KNOW her... rather I know "of" her... hehe
the salon i go to has only managers, the owners live in another town i think.

Since I just switched salons a week or so ago, I haven't met the owner of my new place yet, but the staff they ahve is super friendly and helpful!
I don't think it is that important to know the owner. Who knows the owner of Walmart of Walgreens? I read a lot of stories in industry magazines about the owner saying they know every single customer by name. I always think you need more customers. As much as I would like to know every customer and how warm and fuzzy that sounds to customers that the owner would know them, think about it from the owners side. I have over 11,500 names in my data base. There is no way on earth that anyone could know that many people and keep their names straight. The moral of my rant is that customers should not feel offended if the owner does not recognize them right away or at all.

If your staff is well trained and sales are good, absentee ownership works fine. But if they aren't, someone needs to watch the kids running the candy store.
You will always have that segment of the population that insists on only dealing with the top of the chain, necessary or not.

I do not think I am better than anyone because I work at a tanning salon.I am 41 & work
there a couple days a week for $6. an hour just cause I love everything to do with tanning.I try to be nice to everyone but I don't have time this time of year to get to know everyone.Especially only working a couple days a week. The owner works there most of the time.

As an owner...I enjoy getting to know my customers...I have made a lot of great relationships with them! Although I am unable to recognize everyone I still appreciate each and every one of them

I know one of the owners. When she's not busy or I'm waiting on a bed, we have some interesting conversations.
You know what is too bad is that when I first started out I actually did know every single customer and something about them. Today I was at our local Barnes and Noble and a lady walked up to me and asked me if I worked at Oasis Tanning since I had a shirt on with the name on it. I had no idea who she was at all. That is the nature of the beast. Knowing every single customer is great but those salons never stay in business.

I really feel like I know my SO.. Her and her hubby are really nice, personable, and very informative! My SO is so nice that since I had to switch salons for the hours, she changed her hours back to 8:30 on Tues and Thurs so I can come back to her salon.. Pretty cool huh? Now, I know I wasn't the only one who likes to tan early, but it's nice that she cares for her customers that much... I do feel like I know her, and she's a Wonderful person!

Yup! My salon owner really is nice! Shes letten me tan in a $9 upgrade for only $5, she took 5% off my Swedish Hemp Creme, so I only paid $20 for it. She also gave me a BIG HUGE sample of Black Tea for ONLY $4!!!!

I think it's important for the owners as well as the staff to try and remember their customers names and be as friendly as possible. Like Rich stated above, it's difficult to get to know every client that walks through the door, and some people would rather be left alone.
p.s. watch out for the huggers - they may have more intentions then you realize...
