Ok, so I have a year membership at this little mom and pop type salon that a friend recommended. The staff is really nice, the place is always really clean, but the beds are older than dirt. I've been getting good color there, with lots of flipping around in the beds. LOL. So last night, I was going to this little shopping plaza in town that I rarely go to, looking for a different store. And what do I see? A brand new looking tanning salon! I swear, it was an accident, the door was open and just sucked me in! Ok, so I was curious about what kind of beds they had. Ohhhhhhhhhhh WOW. All fairly new, lots of the Ergoline beds, which I'd never seen before, some nifty looking standups. Next thing I know, my credit card just slipped right out of my hand, and I'm buying 2 sessions in the Ergoline 600. Dang those facial tanners are HOT! It was rather enjoyable, since I'm a large woman, and a bit claustrophobic, to have all that room around me. However, as I was getting out and getting dressed, I noticed lots of dust around the wiring of the bed, and that the floor could really use a mop. It wasn't totally filthy, but not nearly as clean as my other salon. Plus, the guy who gave me the tour of this place talked so fast I couldn't remember hardly anything he said about the differences in the beds. And their selection of lotions actually wasn't even as good as my regular place, which is pretty pitiful. I loved the bed but.........the service is much better at my regular place with the old beds. What would you do in my place? I'm thinking I'll just keep using my regular place most of the time, and hit this place when I want to splurge on the big comfy beds. Of course my hubby doesn't like that idea, since the new place is of course, more expensive. EEK!

As long as old beds are maintained, they tan just as good as new ones. I'd keep my membership at the first salon, and when you want to upgrade go to the new one. If the salon is fairly new, and they already aren't "clean", just imagine what it's gonna look like in a few months.

I would probably do the same thing and just go to the new place occasionally - I love those ergoline beds too! Just make sure that the beds are being cleaned properly.

I would go to the first place. If they take the time to clean, they probably have well maintained beds. If the other place can't even take the time to dust, when was the last time they had the bed serviced?

U got a point Starry. Ok I agree.
I would stay at the first place and treat myself to occasional visits to the other. I go to 4 places depending on what I want. I have memberships at 2 so far. My home salon has low to medium pressure beds and the other salon I have a membership has the orbit and the ergoline 600 (LOVE THAT BED)the other two I visit on occasion to tan in the Sunboard and the Matrix.

I would stay at Ma and Pops what ever it is called because they are cleaner which is a big issue and I think the older beds wich are well maintained work better then knewer beds becausethey are crafted better and is not a piece of crap like the newer beds which are like cheap plastic on the outside.

I would stay at your old place and go over to the new place on occasion.

Lovemysun, price is NOT a big issue... The cleanliness of the salon, color from the beds, and knowledge of the staff are the most important things.
Also, a lot of the new beds ARE very well made. You just have some cheap salon owners who bought crap beds and that's where people get the impression that new beds suck.

As an employee of a "mom and pop' salon I would have to say stay at your regular place. I have had some clients leave to go try a nicer, more fancier place only to return saying "I missed you and you are so much more friendly and I like the fact that you are so personal with me". This type of service means alot to people and I am glad to provide it.

I went with a cheaper salon...personally I think my old one was nicer as far as beds and cleanliness goes but Hey, I'm a poor college student now LOL so If I wanna keep my tan it's cheap beds for me!!!! I just clean the beds before I use them and I'm all good!!!
I would probably go with the salon that I get a better tan at. Which I'm guessing would be the new salon with the better beds.

I am happy with the service and results I get from my new salon, but if if improvements must be made, I would like to see it done in equipment and service. If you get new equipment, the service level should improve too, just to be able to advise people on use, exposure times, differences with the old models, etc... It shouldn't be a single tier in areas of improvement, it needs to be across the board.

I'm happy with the salon service i get , but i rather have better beds!! I can learn to ignore bad customer service if I'm ending up with a dark tan in a great bed

I would choose service over beds any day, because you want to feel comfortable while your tanning there.

beds, hands down. who cares about great service in mediocre beds? i'm all about the beds, though good service is an added bonus.
