If you put a fan next to you while tanning, would you still tan? I mean, you don't have to get hot to tan, right?

Yes you can still tan with the fan. The amount of heat produced does not hinder, or accelerate the tanning process. Maybe one of the pros can better explain...

of course! the fan has no effect on the UV light hitting your skin. It just makes you more comfortable.

I was told by a tanning salon that I went to awhile back that if the fan is blowing right on you it weakens the rays. I don't know if this is true or not, I have never heard of it. I don't see how it could. I know I sure can't stand it without one though.

No, neither can i. I can barely last 5 minutes without one.

The hotter the lamps, the less efficiently they tan. A fan does not effect the strength of the rays, but will make you more comfortable and keep the tanning unit operating more efficiently. In a regulated state, such as Texas, we must not let the room reach 100 degrees.

I can't believe someone at the salon would even tell you that - Most of the new beds come with cooling systems built in. Doesn't sound like this salon is very knowledgeable.

Unless the beds are really cool, I hate tanning without a fan. It's soo uncomfortable.

100? Whoa, I can barely stand it when it's above 80!

You definately do not have to get hot to tan. The lamps do perform better if they are cooler. We keep it 65 in our salons(just ask my employees who wears sweaters year round!)......no need to get all yucky sweaty to get a tan.

A fan is a must sometimes it is so hot in those beds later in the day. I can't imagine tanning without a fan.

The first time I tanned, I was wondering what the deal was with the fan in the room....I found out really quick. I can't live without it now!!!

In fact cool skin tans better than sweaty one.

Wow.Didn't know hot ones are less effective for your tanning. Does anything hinder the rays at all??

sunscreen will hinder them. UV light is invisible.
I agree with everyone else. The fan will not affect your tan
The truth is you are right if you said that the fan will not affect the tanning process. Except, except, except for this. Think about a tingle lotion. What does it do? It brings blood and ozygen to the surface of the skin. So does excess heat built up if you do not use the fan. So there is a minor connection. The part about it blowing away the UV rays is total crap though.

Yea dont worry about the fan. Ya know if you really wanted to, in the dead of winter, you could be the only one on your block layin out catching all those rays...think about how much light the snow reflects..you might get darker than when you do in the summer!! plus hypothermia!! everyone wants that!!!
(hehe just kidding, tryin to make you laugh!)
