View Full Version : My HP experiment for the day

I decided I would call around to different salons today to see who had what HP beds, if there were any I hadn't tried, etc. I want to try an Ultrabronz Supernova with new bulbs because I don't know when the bulbs in the one I tried were changed. I called 15 salons within a 50 miles radius and here's what I found...
ALL 15 could not tell me when the bulbs were last changed in their regular or HP units (almost all of which where the Ultrabronz) One said it "Could" have been changed when the unit was serviced last month, but she didn't know.
All of the salon's who had the Ultrabronz could not tell me what model it was, new or old. I would ask, "is it the Ultrabronz Supernova?" and they would say "What's that? Ours is an Ultrabronz" when in fact it was the supernova.
Can salons in your area tell you when the bulbs where changed, what models they have, and what year they were made? I was quite suprised how little information they gave out.

Well, some can tell me what models, even fewer can tell me what year, and almost none know when the lamps were changed.

Pretty much all the salons I've been to can at least tell me when the bulbs were last changed. I haven't found any salon that had no clue as to when they were last changed. I would ask the manager or owner all your questions about what types/models of beds they have. I find that the majority of part-time help at salons don't know that much about those types of things.

They should know all that stuff. It's not rocket science, and they're supposed to be the pros. If you think they're fools, go somewhere else. I've heard amazing stories on here about what can happen if the staff don't know what they're doing!

If you are just asking salon staff, then chances are they won't know. I have all my model & serial #'s, date of manufacture, maintenance records, etc. off site, along with other important information due to snoopy little minds digging in my file cabinet in the past. I keep all info at my corporate headquarters (better known as home) or in the 85 pound satchell I carry daily. Many may not agree with this, but I am reluctant to give certain info out because of exchanges with customers in the past. Believe it or not, there are some customers out there who feel you should be relamping on a weekly basis in order for them to feel they are getting their money's worth. These are the same people that want their packages half-price and insist on bringing in baby oil to tan with (on my equipment) and get insulted when I ask them not to. I know I sound defensive, but I'm just trying to explain what it is sometimes like from the other side of the counter. Fortunately I don't have many problem customers, but there are a few that can make salon owners a bit more protective of the information they give out (even to staff, who may or may not learn what they can, then go work for a competitor).

P.S. - but they really should know what kind of equipment they have.

Oh, I understand that completely. When I want to try out a new bed, I want to get the full effect of the bed, and most of the time that's bed with newer bulbs. I have tanned in the ultrabronz before, but I didn't get half the color I got with the Omega, and I'm guessing it was because the bulbs were old (25 minute session in the Ultrabronz compared with a 16 minute session in the Omega). So I called around to find one with newer bulbs to try and it just suprised me that they had no idea when the bulbs were last changed. And it was just something I wanted to know before shelling out $35 for one session.

right I agree & but more often than not the girl that picks up the phone works there part-time & knows little to nothing. Next time you call around I would ask to speak with the manager.

I am going to a new salon and they told me that they just placed new tanning bulbs in all the beds. I didn't even ask.

Yeah, my salon doesn't tell you about bulbs, but they put a poster up when they change them.
