I went into a salon and asked if they have hp beds, well the girl said "do you mean high voltage beds, because we have plenty of those," I tried not to laugh and walked out the door. Have you ever met salon owners that are so uniformed about tanning beds as this one was?

CT: If you would like PM me and let me know what area in GA you are in ... I can probably recommend some great salons to you with true "HP"... (And for the record NO not my salon...maybe by next year )

Not surprised at all. When I first got in the business I called a competitor and asked what kind of beds they have. "Mmmm, I don't know, let me go look. *sound of footsteps* Sun..er..Sunin...um...Sun inbrown...". Of course I knew she was trying to pronounce "Sonnenbraune".
And then there are the horror stories I hear from clients about other salons. Scareee.

One day I went through the phone book calling all the salons within 20 min. of my house or work to see what kinds of beds they have and the pricing. This was a total of about 15 salons. Only one in the city I work in (and boy is it a dump!). I can honestly say that 6 only knew what beds they had, how they tan, and what lotions they carry. Im not sure if anyone i talkd to was an owner or manager, but come on! You would think out of 15 salons there would be more than 6 that had a clue what they were doing. How sad.

It really is sad how many uneducated salons are out there.

Yep, this is why I cringe when a new client says, "Well, this OTHER salon used to let me blah, blah, blah...".

boo irresponsibility. if I owned a salon, or even if I worked in a salon, I would make sure I knew my stuff! I mean, come on, number one: tanning is one of those sensitive processes that requires knowledge and atleast a little expertise! and two: it makes your salon look REALLY bad! if you don't even care about educating people you would atleast think the business/money aspect would motivate people.
